I just rencently purchased a lab finished 25 p. Mirage plus prop for my Donzi. My 22zx had gone 71.8 mph on gps with a 23 p. Mirage plus, but the boat was hitting the rev limiter. I baught the 25p. prop to try and hoped for a 1mph gain, what I recieved was almost 3mph. The boat now runs 74.1mph on my Garmin gps 5. I believe I can get more out of my Donzi with better conds. I ran this speed in a light chop, with 2 people and a half tank of gas. I will be adding a set of Eddie Marine manifolds and S/S risers soon, and I am hopping for 76mph as long as the boat can handle it. Any advise app.
Thanks Bill
P.S. my motor is all origanal 454 mag EFI 385HP with only a K&N air filter.

iam really shocked that your boat goes that fast.i guess donzi step hull design really makes a difference.makes u kind of wonder why they still make classics?oh **** did i just say that,sorry!just joking,dont shoot me. :p

I am not going to even get in to this but these speeds are off the wall. Buy a GPS, There is know way a 22ZX with a 25pitch is runnig 70 never mind 74.. And that is a fact! I was running 510hp against your 385 hp a 30Pitch prop and I was running 77 a stock 502/415 hp runs that boat at 69mph with a 25pich prop. Do not go by speeds on the speedo they are off up to 7mph. My 26Zx runs 72mph speedo, Heck I am running 65.4 on 2 different gps"s The step hull doesn't make that much difference on the 22, She runs on her rear end If you looked at pics of my old 22 the step was never near the water. I am pretty sure little Griz is getting the same speeds I was. The 22 is a heavy boat with a big block almost 4000 lbs on her dry!

I agree with Frank my 22zx has the 7.4mpi with 310 horse and the best I've ever seen was 64.5mph which was a two way average with just me in the boat on a 50 degree day in January. My normal everyday top speed is only 63mph and actually I think the motor is getting weaker because now I can barely get to 61mph.

What rpms are you running wide open?

Do you live near a waterfall?

Bill its not that we are trying to make you sound like a bs'er but for those of us with the same boat those numbers just don't make any sense. If your boat really goes that fast the rest of us with 22zx's need to see what is so different about your boat.

Just like the last time I question the consistancy of your top speed. The numbers you are achieving are just too off the wall for the hp you are pushing. That hull runs very wet and the step is hardly effective, which is why I doubt a 454 mag in a zx can get near those speeds STOCK. I run an absolute max speed of 81gps in ideal conditions turning a 30p prop, trimming slowly over a long run, and bouncing the tach off 4700... and it takes 500hp and some good torque to do that. I know for a fact that the mirage plus and the step hull ZX do not get along, so unless you are a non-stepper you couldnt plane out without cavitating. My biggest problem with your post is that within it your original GPS top speed is listed as two different speeds. "22zx had gone 71.8 mph on gps"; "Donzi 22zx 454 mag 71.5mph, gps". Although its only a few tenths difference it happened the last time you posted but then the different speeds were scattered through the board under several topics. We all have asked what your RPMs are at those speeds but I have not seen anything but "rev limiter". So if you are reading this and intend to respond to some questions here are mine;

What year/hull is your 22ZX (step or non-step)?
What are your RPMs when you hit those speeds?
What drive ratio do you think/know you have?
Which one of the posted gps 71.? mph are correct?
Does your boat have trim tabs?

AMEN on killing that, haven't had a drag for 21 years, but when I retire (soon) I anticipate at least one drag....
Amazing how many of my yuppy pals still do the deed....
Thank goodness for 1800.......
