Fellas,

There's an old v-drive Donzi on Craigslist in Mobile, AL for $5k. I went and had a look. It's all there, but someone did a bad paint restoration and it's cracking all over the deck. Engine is complete and clean. Rudder appears to be fabricated and larger than original. Trailer is original but restored. Great opportunity here. The owner got the boat in trade for some work and doesn't appear to be a boater. Anyway, take a look. I'd probably have taken her home if I'd had something to pull it. I did take pics... Cheers, Ben

For 5 grand, I'd say that's a keeper if it's all there, no matter the restoration work. I'm curious about the year designation though and too lazy to search, but I had always thought 1968 to be the last year for a barrelback? Given it's a v-drive, maybe I'm mistaken.

Cool boat though, windshield and all! Good find!

What was the designation for this boat? Last time I saw this barrel back configuration someone commented that it was probably one of many Donzi knock-offs because Donzi never manufactured a boat that was made like this where the deck meets the transom.

Barrelback 18. The rudder is not original. Everything else looks legit. Serial number/foil tag?? Probably a small block Ford - Velvet drive with a Crusader 4500 V Drive

I'm a hard core classic wood boat guy (1948 Chris Craft 20' Custom), but I've always had my head turned by Donzis. Many of my wood boat buddies have a "fiberglass fun boat" and I've always said "if I ever got one it would be a Donzi". Could this one be it? I tried to call the number, but the mailbox is full.

There aren't many Greg Josephs out there, but I'm not the one who did work for Otis Chandler. I'm in California.
I am, however, looking for a Donzi project to make into a fun boat for me.
