We have owned number of older marine engines that suggested the use of "marine white gasoline" in the owner's manual during the pre lead-free time period.
Amoco (American Oil Company) gasoline was famous for being lead free "white gasoline" since the 1920s when all other national brands always contained tetraethyl lead.
On the east coast "Lead Free Amoco Gasoline---the clean burnng gasoline" was a sign often seen on the marina fuel pumps. Unleaded fuel, which was nationally mandated in the late 1970s was nothing new to Amoco.
