Looking for a little information on the spring dustoff at Lake George, first of all, is it a good venue for kids and second, can anybody recommend any good places for lodging? Thanks

Hi DRD-

If you have an old Donzi, live in the Northeast and have never been to Lake George - it is a must! The Lake is a 30 mile gash carved by receding glaciers with sparkling, clear water. Most of us stay and launch out of Treasure Cove Resort in Diamond Point. There is a ton for kids to do: historic forts, amusement parks and of course the lake itself.

Here is last year's event notice from the club's website: http://www.lgdonziclassic.com/invite.html
Check out the photo gallery from prior years to get an idea of what it's all about.

Let us know if you have any questions.

The event is based out of Treasure Cove Resort. Make your reservations early at: www.treasurecoveresort.com (http://www.treasurecoveresort.com) Treasure Cove has there own launch ramp and plenty of dock space.
Some folks stay next door at Carpi Village. www.caprivillage.com

Jay and Kirby have pretty much covered it. The event changes format from year to year but the basis is usually the same.

The event and venue is very kid friendly It's father's day weekend is it not??? if you can't find something to do with the kids your eyes are closed. treasure cove has fishing, row boats, paddleboats, sandy beach, basketball, volleyball, shuffleboard, playgroun d and a coin arcade. Then the village goes from ice cream to minigolf wax museum and fort william henry. so there are plenty of things to do with the kids.

the dustoff which is dedicated to the donzi classic. This event is more formal than our family picnic. The dustoff will have a schedule and has a permit is filed with a charted course and time frame for the regatta plus we have a boat show and awards dinner.A lot to fit in to one day so we need to have some sort of schedule to move things along. The weekend starts usually around wed. for the early arrivals and they use the facilities as they see fit .the formal event starts friday afternoon with a lakeside BBQ so the kids can play within site while the parents relax. Sat. is the tougher day for the kids as it starts early with the show at 8-830am then the regatta run 9am-12noon which covers most of the lake, then lunch at the algonquin . so the kids will need to be able to take 3 hrs on a boat ride. After lunch you are at your leisure to explore the lake on your own then we return to the algonquin at 630 ish for the awards dinner which goes to around 10 pm( no boats at night). Many of our members use the event as a part of their family vacation.

There will be an announcement coming shortly with the schedule and format for the event.

Awards for the show will be given out in the following categories:

The best Motor compartment
Resto Mod Classic: presented to the classic with the best resto/modification.

The Club as always showcases the Donzi Classic, the Donzi family and beautiful Lake George. The format for this year’s regatta will be a cruise that covers the entire lake .There will be pace and sweep boats that will make the run an enjoyable and safe run. The routing will be reviewed at the drivers safety meeting.

I think we can work some of those rivalaries into the weekend.Of course I am going to need volunteers to carry their sides colors.

A lot of eciting news for our membership, this will surely be one NOT to miss. The club has been named a Marque club of the ACBS, we are honored and look forward to that relationship.

[ QUOTE=$originalposter]{$pagetext}[/QUOTE]

Forgive my ignorance, what is the ACBS and all that mean?

How many peeps and boats do you anticipate will attend the DustOff for 2012 - on average, just curious..... no one has started a Head Count Thread anywhere that I can see?

Hi Dan-

ACBS = Antique and Classic Boat Society = A Nod of Respect and Recognition from Those Upon High for our OLD Plastic Boats!

www.acbs.org (http://www.acbs.org) is actually a great organization that recognizes that their average member is older than the average Buick driver and wants to make inroads w/ the Fibre 'Glassic crowd.

Maybe one year they'll even let plastic boats play at Augusta...I mean Tahoe! ;)

Hope to see you at LG!

mattyboy
04-11-2012, 06:17 AM
Thanks Jay you summed the ACBS thingy up pretty well, funny I was going to use an Augusta analogy too.
Go BUBBA

Dan,
going on the verbal committments I have and the registrations Scott has been getting it looks like it will be the normal 25-35 boats and 65-85 people that we have averaged over the last 12 years. Most of which aren't regular posters here so they wouldn't be in a head count here any way. As always it looks like the usual suspects will be there and quite a few first time attendees. Will be a great event with a few new twists.

Hope you can make it :)

FYI UPDATE

let me preface this by saying we have never had any issues or problems, we don't expect there to be any this year, we want to keep it that way in the future.

This year we have a record number of newcomers so we just want to make sure they have a safe enjoyable time.

We have filed all the permits and will operate this run in cooperation with the LGPC. The permit has requirements that IF NOT MEET OR OBEYED could lead to the club forfieting having any runs in the future on the lake. We don't even want to think about any thing of the sort.

We realize that everyone wants to run their boat and they will have more than an chance to do that, we also know that for the first timer there is a level of anxiety that comes with going to a new event unfamiliar waters and people. Let me assure you, you will find no better water or people on the planet. The format of the run will let seasoned veteran and the newbie on the lake enjoy and see the entire lake in the safety of numbers.

Lake George Park Commission Requirements

1. a lake pass: purchased at any marina usually under $15 for a week pass all boats must have them displayed as the sticker instructs

2. there is a 45 mph speed limit

3. Noise, the lake has a 90db limit and they do enforce it, (we have not had much attention to our group but if you run open pipes or close to shore like a mad man they will find you ! please if you know your boat is EXCESSIVELY loud and have been thinking of installing mufflers do it if you have them use them, we will also take routes on the lake that will keep us away from the shore line also keep in mind we have members with old Holman moody setups to 500 HP + motors with headers and we have not been a target for the patrols

we feel that the permit should help us in this area

Lake George Donzi Classic Club Requirements

1. No alcohol before or during the run( we have never had a problem with this but it must be said)

2. Everyone in the boat must wear a USCG APPROVED PFD type III at all times during the run, it's close to a 3 hr cruise so the orange mae wests might not be the best for comfort ( lifelines are totally acceptable even though they are not USCG approved)

3. No passing the Flag/Pace boat

4. Adherence to any other items set forth at the drivers safety meeting including but not limited to boat spacing and routes during the run.
Attending the driver's safety meeting is mandatory

5. if the boat is equipped with a safety laynard it must be worn by the driver

6. a valid state or USCG registration for the boat properly displayed

any violation of the above will result in a disqualification from the poker run and show and may lead to other disciplinary action deemed appropriate by the Club

Safety Suggestions

1. each boat be equipped with the "USCG safety package"

2. If you have a hand held VHF radio or cell phone bring it communication by cell is spotty at best but if we have a network of phones and radios we can relay messages

3. first aid kits

4. hand held gps

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in this and Thank You all for your support of the club. Looking forward to seeing you, get that winter Donzi project done!!
If you have any question or concerns please contact us
