Just came across these pictures while going through an album belonging to a friend of mine. These were taken in Abaco, Bahamas. No info on the boat but it sure looks like a cool setup. 350HP Verado!

Those 350's are awesome. I hope he is running at least 91 octane, or:nilly: boom.

any idea how these boats would run with the outboards?

sort of under the impression that a 22 should have about 400 hp min to get it into the 70mph area
would the outboard get it there as well by being lighter and spinning faster?

does the boat act the same without the extra weight on the back or does having the outboard father back compensate for the difference?

I can't tell if there are one or two Verado's on the back of the 22 Classic. Here is some data that might be of interest. Although a different hull, the Ultra is also a 22 foot V. We converted one of the Ultra IO hulls from BBC power to a 250 fishin motor on a bracket and clocked 64 on GPS. We collected the data below. Properly set up, the 22C with a single Verado would be 70-71 IMO all day long

thumbs - 2003 Ultra 23XS - 350Mag, Bravo 1 300hp - 58mph
socal19 - 2000 Ultra 23XS - 7.4MPI, Bravo 1 310hp - 59mph
xtrm22 - 1997 DCB 22 Extreme - carb'd nonmag 454 330hp - 64.7mph imcoflows, perfect conditions lab finished 3 blade
unknown - 2001 Ultra 23XS - Closed Deck with 377 Scorp 350hp - Bravo 1 - 68mph
Ultra 26#1 - 2002 Ultra 23XS -running a 496Mag - 375hp - Bravo 1- 70mph GPS with perfect conditions + light fuel
xtrm22 - 1997 DCB 22 - swapped in an HP500 carb(470hp?) Bravo 1 - 74.6with stock 26" 4 blade runnin 5000-5100 at (with trim left)
1tricky1 - 1994 Eliminator 22 Extreme - running 572hp at 5500 Bravo 1 - 80mph - 25p 3 blade
CB-BLR - 1995 Eliminator 22 Extreme 540 in. 685hp consistantly over 90mph. 2" IMCO shortie lower unit.

Boat looks similar to photos sent to me by Alistair Key who was posting about his newly acquired Donzi 22ZX "screwed twice." He said the Donzi outboard included in his photos belonged to his cousin. Alistair's father is active in the running the local marina there.

That engine looks huge hanging back there......Could not imagine without setback, it would swallow
up the transom....I hope they glassed the hull & deck together....lotta different dymanics going on.

I would think a giant black prawn was chasing me!!!!

Personally a 4 stroke O/B is very quiet.....I love quiet but I love a BBC blasting out a good sound as well. God bless Capt'ns Call, etc.

Yep, that's a beautiful 22. I am a charter captain in the Abacos and see that boat all the time. It is generally sitting on the hard at one of the Albury boatyards on Man-O-War Cay. Almost all of the Donzi hulls in the Abacos have been converted to outboard BTW.

kraftee, that is pretty interesting. Any chance of more photos? The general rule of thumb is 1" of bracket setback for each foot of hull. When I look at Dr Fleming's photo, it looks like the setback is a lot more then 22" based on the scale of the human and how low the boat is sitting in the water with the 600lb 350. We just converted a 22 and chose 18" of setback based on CG. The owner of the 22 Classic kept the "doghouse" intact for massive storage.

Greg, That Verado looks huge on the back of her. WOW 600 lbs...
What is the weight savings over a BB? and when the weight is pushed back so far does it impeed handeling? HOw would an Optimax compair to the Verado... Arent the 2 strokes a bit less bulky?

Most setbacks I see are 30" which is what that looks to be. Any less and engines would not be able to tilt.

I think the Verado is about 5" taller then a regular 300XS. I can tilt fully with 18" of setback so I think you would sneek by with 24". It looks like they might be using a Stainless Marine platform.

Buddy, I would say you are about 550lbs lighter with that wacker then a BBC/Bravo and it is not uncommon for that much setback to actually help the handling up top. I'm wondering if that motor is the 350Sci from Merc Race. It puts out about 370HP.

How would an inline 6cyl tilt fully with that little setback? Greg...don't you have a splash well? These are "full" transom boats.

You might be right, but my Warlock is 18" setback with the "little" HPDI...........

How close does it get with it tilted up? Looks like a great setup considering you don't even need to raise it up any. Does it ride like a slipping clutch out of the hole or is she pretty tight? My last O/B would hit 5200 until about 25-30mph then grab and go to like 3k and start pulling like a freight train until the 6k redline. Boat was pretty sick and had a SWEET rooster, not too big but enough to keep people from riding your wake.

The HPDI is a couple of inches close. We used a lift on the Ultra and the same 18" setback...........

I will be back over in the Abacos on charter duty again around the beginning of March. If I am over on Man-O-War Cay, I'll shoot some better pics of the boat and post them... ERIC

In the meantime, how about THIS for an outboard/jackplate combo? This is a Mirage 34 Pilothouse boat we launched about a month ago for a customer in South Florida. The twin Suzuki 300s on a twin Portabracket make this boat FLY. This wide fishing boat hull was never really designed to go much faster than about 45-48mph - but this one does WELL in excess of 60...
