I just picked up a 5.7L Vortec longblock. I plan on using a 650cfm Holly carb. The cam is stock. If I wanted to change the cam, what would suit me best for a .marine cam? Semi performance..

The max you can put on a Vortec 350 is a 470 or so lift for a car. I am running a 480 or so on my Vette but i drilled out the rocker holes a tad. I am running 400+. I am gonna say for the record that you are probably limited w/o special exhaust to the Vortec 320-325/hp cam. I can see if my friend has one. This is the max they make so I am told, not sure about exhaust for overlap: http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp+Cams/249/12-417-8/10002/-1

Thanks Mike, the marina I got the motor from said it is 330hp indmar long block. I just figured that if I was ever going to replace the cam, now would be the time to do so...

Buddy,

I have a Holley 650cfm 4160 electric choke carb I've been meaning to sell, if you don't have yours yet. (I actuallly have a brand new one and a lightly used one. I'd happily sell either and keep the other.)

Mike

Funny you say that Fixx, I thought the pan looked small. Good call on the bigger pan! Should I just go to Summit for that?
The motor is sitting in the back of my truck, covered in plastic with snow and freezing rain... Not ready for this weather yet. Have to go out and get an engine stand today. What I do know about it is that its a 5.7L 2001 Motor with Vortec heads. Real clean, No rust. 1 piece rear main seal and when doing a compression test it was at 160 with 10% leakdown with roller cam.
Hey Ghost,
Sounds great! Send me a pm.
