As most of you know, I just bought my 3rd Donzi, a 1982 2+3 18 with a Mercruiser 260 (350ci)/ Alpha 1 combo.

The hour meter shows 777.2 hrs after my last outing, and I would think it could use a rebuild. I would really like to build a MPI motor, maybe with vortec heads? I don't want to replace the Alpha with a Bravo, or anything like that, but I would like more power then the old 260 puts out.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think

Thanks

My friend is selling this boat, and said he might be willing to swap me motors since no one seems to be interested in it anyways :

As you stated, unless you plan on changing the Alpha you'd better keep the ponies reasonable.

I agree 100%, that is what my goal is here, to build a motor that will make both myself and the Alpha happy...if that's possible :crossfing:

Do not get all bothered by your Alapha.
I have been pushing 500+ hp through mine for the past 3 years.
As long as you do not hammer it you will be fine.

Is 82 an alpha or pre-alpha? I thought the Alpha debuted in 1985 or so. At 61mph with a cleaver why do you think it needs a rebuild? Ditch the prop first.
