Use a NAMS or SAMS certified surveyor, you can also ask at your local marinas who is tough!

SAMS or AMS. For a Donzi classic, depending on their scope of service they will check all or a good portion of:

General fit and finish including evidence and extent of osmotic blistering and delamination
Transom sounding for moisture
Hull soundings for moisture
Stringer soundings and integrity for moisture/rot dislodgement
Cockpit tabbing and general fit
Gas tank for obvious leaks
Fuel and engine safety regs
All electrical components
Steering components
Outdrive functionality
Water test if requested

Most do not do compression testing unless they are engine specialists.

I have bought two boats based on surveys and killed a deal based on another survey because the seller would not reduce price to accomodate required repairs uncovered by the survey. All times, this was money well spent. These guys are accredited and typically have a solid reputation to uphold.

Hope this helps.
