Hydraulic hose dilemma.....

As most of you know, I mounted all three of my trim pumps on the rear seat back. This, of course, requires new, much longer hoses than original. It's not so much the length and cost of the hoses, but the SST ends on the hoses. These ends, similar to brake line ends, seem to be pretty expensive!
My Aeroquip dealer told me the particular ends in SST will average $50.00 to $65.00 EACH!
So, 12 ends w/an average cost of, say, $60.00 comes to $720.00, plus about $250.00 in hose comes to $960.00!!!!!:frown::banghead:

Anyone have any suggestions to lower the cost, other than reverting to carbon steel ends?

Those trim lines go for about $65 each, complete. $60 for each fitting sounds awful high.

Find another used set and splice them together with a union. Just a thought, even though I know you wouldn't do it.;)

Do they have to be flexible lines? You could buy some SS hard brake line, bend an flare them yourself. That could be routed and probably even polished to look nice.

Ken, they're inverted flare like on brake lines.

Brn, not a bad idea.....I'll have to see if it would be practical to try.

BTW, it's not the cost of the hose that's the problem, just the special ends in SST.

You can buy an adapter that treads into the trim pump that has the inverted flare (on the end going into the pump) then a #6 or #4 JIC for your hose to screw on to. having hoses made with JIC's is much cheaper. I did this on my 1st 16' donzi, I mounted my trim pump under the rear seat.

That sounds like a good idea.
