To make the upgrade last night I had to remove all the aftermarket add ons. I decided to sleep last night and add on enhancements over the next week as my time permits.

Scot, not a complaint, just an FYI - the site is still running super slow for me.

edit: Sometimes slow. This post went up fast. The last one took almost a full minute.

I never had any real problem issues with the old version of this site.
It was a bit slow at times but I could still use this site.
I could always read & reply easily to any & all threads & posts.

With this new upgrade I can barely use this site now.
Downloads & viewing of threads & posts are taking several min & now my system locks-up constantly.
It drives my computer nuts.
If it remains like this I am afraid I will have to stop viewing & posting on this great Donzi website.
It appears this new software version of this site is completely incompatable with us older 56K dial-up users.
Very sad indeed !

Where am I? How did I get here?

Scott. Good to see the upgrades. I remember last time the board got freshened. It's the same way with any technology thing.

Everyone likes it the way it used to be.....for about 2 weeks. Then they can't imagine how they'd go back.

Keep tweaking. Thanks for the effort and the upgrade.

I rebuilt the databases to use InnoDB database read/write software to eliminate server/database errors because of the high loads. let me know about any glitches you might experience.

Scott~
My neighborhood development was built out in the early 1960s.
All utility cables are buried underground.
Phone lines are small gauge steel wire plated with copper.
We are also a long distance from telco central station.
This distance & type phone cable will not support DSL .
Cable co using 30 year old coax cable~ no new fiber.
Sadly~
No new fiberoptic cable TV or Telco lines buried in this neighborhood as of 2011.
Local township government officials have been throwing up roadblocks to cable co & Telco upgrades & trenching & digging for new fiber.
So it appears I am now stuck with 56K dial-up & satelite HDTV.
What a mess .

Appears to be a lot of spammers on board. I am sure you know this. Just thought I would send a note anyways.

I just spent a few minutes getting used to the new "manage attachments" and also learned that all the pictures ever uploaded here are now much easier to view/find/add etc. It doesn't matter if they're yours or someone elses. There's a LOT of very cool pics here, and navigating the albums is now fast and easy.

It is interesting to use the site.

Initially it is much faster. After navigating around within the site for a few minutes, it seems to slow down to where it used to be, often taking 25 - 30 seconds to load a page.

I don't know how the SPAM control works on a website, but I'm sure you will get that worked out, as we had NONE on the previous version of the site. Would you like people to send you a PM, or post regarding SPAM threads?

For instance, my previous post had not "loaded" after 90 seconds, with the message "contacting DONZI.NET" showing. I hit the stop load, then refresh button, and it loaded in about 15 seconds.

56K dial up :rlol: I live in an area that just recemtly went from 4 digit dialing in the local exchange to 10 digit. no fios or dsl from the telco but the cable co has been offering broadband for years on our 30 yr old coax cable even when all the kids are home from school I still run atleast 780k up and down.

Verizon offers a wire-less MyFi package that will connect up to 4 devices at a time.

we use this to give our customers internet access on new construction sites before any facilities( cable or phone are brought onsite) Wave to Wave is also another option via satilite.

POTS and dial up is a dying technology. The copper infrastructure is to expensive to maint. and there is no one left at any telco that knows how to work on it . This last Verizon strike has all of my customers looking for alternatives that bypass the Verizon cable plant. newer technologies more cost effective and faster, the one problem is that they don't always tend to be reverse technology compatible. 56k dialup connections will go the way of the rotary phone if they haven't already.

When my folks first bought this house new in the early 60s the area was still using "Party" phone lines where you share your line with a neighbor.
One of the two phone line wires was shared to save cable pairs.
This was a very isolated dairy & horse farm country area then.
If you had a very chatty neighbor you could never use your phone with that "Party Line".
You picked-up the phone to make a call & there they were yacking away.
What a mess.
We were stuck with that until the early 70s.
Supposedly Verizon fios is comming soon~
Comcast cable is also planning an upgrade to all fiber in the area.

Scott~
For some reason the new Donzi site upgrade is working a bit better now today on my 56K dial-up.
I hope it stays this way or improves a bit.

Get Well Soon !

Scot,

There should be a mobile template and plugin available for 4.X. I believe I had one installed when I had my 4.X license. I only have a 3.X license left so I cannot view anything 4.X related @ vbulletin.org.

4.X has so much more functionality than the 3.X version of vbulletin had (has).

No real complaints about the site's functional upgrade - the only thing I don't like is this new and rather bland (blue gray) shade of color.
Thread topic's don't stand out as much as they did before and are visuallly less appealing................Really miss the look of the old page!
