Greg G. needs to put one of those on his Donzi 16 outboard -benchseat project "Surface Tension"

Why is he still playing around with those wimpy, smelly, & short lived two stroke eggbeaters ?

Now~~~ This Seven Marine 557 outboard is a REAL engine.~~~
Not a weed wacker toy.

What do those new 557 beasts cost $$$ ???

Don't know what the cost would be but I bet it'll be stupidly high, and at a weight of 1000-lbs dry I wouldn't dare hang it off the stern of any small boat without it creating a sucking whirlpool stern first.:(

I read they are around $69K.

Lots of cool features integrated into the design; built in, internal hydraulic steering, closed cooling.

Ouch!
For that much money you could buy a BBC attached to a complete Bravo drive assembly that's attached to 22-feet of fully newly rigged fiberglass that's gel-koted in the color of your choice.

I believe the article I read was in BOATING, and they were discussing the advantages of being able to run 557 twins, as opposed to three or four of the smaller currently available outboards to get the same performance. There were advantages to both sides of the equation, but it would sound awfully cool hearing twin 557 running down the lake, as they have above the water dual exhaust :) !

Not really made for a little boat is a understatement:eek:http://www.boats.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/seven-marine-team-mounts-557-motors-on-intrepid-370-cuddy-seven-marine-president-rick-davis.jpg

I'll stick with the $12k, 280HP, 385lb approach

I have never been a big 2 cycle outboard guy.
They just don't live very long between rebuilds for me.
However~
An engine like this could bring me over to the outboard eggbeater side.

Greg~
This motor should work on your Donzi 16 project~~~
As long as you keep your boat in constant foreward motion so it does not swamp & sink.

Brad, your right. They would be perfect for you instead of your custom ILMOR V10 project.

Greg~
I have heard virtually nothing from Donzi & only had two emails from Donzi Josh telling me "he would get back to me very soon" about this proposed custom Ilmor V-10/Donzi 18 project.
It's over a month now with no word at all.

I give up !

I can only conclude that Donzi & Josh have no interest in building the custom Donzi 18 Ilmor V-10 project for me.
In fact I don't think Donzi wants to actually build any 18s
at this point in time.
I guess it's now time for me to start looking for another neat completed & restored/repowered old Donzi or other early vintage style & look speedboat for next summer's season.

There is only four weeks of boating left this season for me in my NJ/Pa area.
AND~
I have not set foot on any boat this year or last season because of my Dad's passing away !
