Will be traveling through Wisconsin shortly and would like to check out some lakes with lake front properties in the area. Unfortunately, not a boating trip. Working our way up to Fargo from Milwaukee. Anybody out there, that can suggest some ideas on preferred lake front properties? We will be near Winnebago for sure. Lake Geneva would be at the top of my list, but after looking at Zillow values, I think I'm about 1-8 million short.

Yeah!!
Lake Geneva is great, It's a nice big lake that's spring fed and deep. Very clean water. It's kinda touristy and get's very busy on summer weekends but still kinda cool. If you don't live "on" the lake, it can be affordable.

Here is some fun info.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Geneva,_Wisconsin

We have lots of local sorrounding lakes like Como and Delevan. Also not too far from the Fox river. Hit me up with a PM if you want to stop by and look at my little driveway project.

lake geneva has nice deep water but it sucks for up loud piped boaters, they wont even let us on the lake!! Also their is a 45 mph speed limit..You shouls have saw the d&r trying to catch me a tom of years ago, they thought i was fleeing and aluding them and i laughed at them and told them WHAT I CANT HEAR YOU,,they made me shut the boat off and tryed to give me a tick for my exhaust,,showed them a piece of paper from the dnr that read after a certain year their is no loud exhaust rule..

if you look at the chain o lakes you can find a house on the water,,a fixxer upper start at 100 k,,if you really want to look in wi stop in Eagle River,,if your taking 51 N you will go rite through it,,the eagle river chain a nice area for boating..

Ouch! So, I may have some issues there? :boggled:

I knew about the speed limit. It's 35 on the weekends and 45 on the weekdays. Hopefully they won't make a racket about my boat. It's pretty loud when the exhaust gets above the water line.

Thanks DR members for the input, keep it coming. Wife's sister lived in Clintonville, and another niece lives in Manawua. Just saw an American Picker's episode, filmed in Wisconsin. Beautiful country.

Thanks for the Wikipedia link. Really interesting. We are still debating on going south from Milwaukee. Originally, I wanted to look at an 18 in Morris Illinois, but it was recently sold. Damn. We figure we have about 3 days to spend in Wisconsin, so we're trying to figure out an itinerary. I'll check out Como and Develan.

Boy, you got that one right.... Hey, I'm a Floridian. :) These cheese heads are really funky and drive like morons. I find it amazing that the right lane is always the passing lane and they get mad at you when they block off lanes and you want to pass. None of this would fly on the east or west coast. I find most IL drivers pretty good though. It is pretty country out here in WI but You also have to like cows and corn I guess... LOL. Great parks and preserves too. I moved here from FL for business so I just have to deal with it for now...

Everything has it's up's and down's but WI is just okay.
