My 18'er has 400+hp, a volvo 280 and a 23" solas prop. Last week a few pieces of the epoxy fairing the nosecone to the lower chipped off. Instead of taking a couple of days off from boating to get everything cleaned for reinstalling, I just cleaned the lower and painted it. The boat now carries the nose high like the ultra did, but no slip in turns or on take off. I found this thread as I was searching around for other volvo/nosecone info. http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=28512&highlight=volvo+nosecone
My guess is that my 18 didn't like the stern lift it was getting from the hydromotive nosecone. At least not in rougher water where keeping the nose up keeps the prop in the water. I like the all around ride better without the nose cone.
Has anyone else removed one and liked it better?

maddad,
I can't offer any insight on your specific 18 situation but that thread you posted has a ton of good info. Thanks for the post.

Greg, sometimes I can get lost in some of the old threads for an hour. It's amazing how much has been discussed in depth on old volvo drives. And everything else too.

Sorry Innerrage, I do not. I remember there was a bit of a wait for the next run of props even when I bought mine a few years ago.
