Hi guys, I am looking at a boat which is said to be a 1988 Donzi 19 (presumably same hull as the St Tropez or Hornet) but I don't recall ever seeing a US built Donzi with this style of deck.

I've spent quite a few hours searching the net for Donzi 19 pics and brochures but have not come across another 'Donzi' like it.

Can anyone tell me if this is a Donzi and/or where I should look for hull ID information?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if it is a 19 donzi it would be a center console it would also be a 19 degree deadrise. the windshield does look like a 7 meter windshield but that is about it.

if this boat was produced in the US after nov 1972 it would have a hull stamped upper right side of the transom.

it's not a donzi from what i see in the pic.

Thanks for providing the hull ID location Mattyboy. Did Donzi use a set pattern for their hull ID numbers? For example, if I obtained the hull ID number, is there any way I can use it to confirm it's a Donzi or otherwise.

Back in the day an Australian company purchased molds for the 16 and the 19 from Donzi, but due to a lack of marketing they went bust. I'm fairly confident this is Australian built boat (not US built as the owner claims) and suspect the deck was created in Australia, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Thanks again & regards

Yes the HIN would tell you if it is a Donzi or not. The HIn contains a 3 character MIC ( Mfg'r Identity code) with donzi it would be DMR or DNA

the 19 foot st tropez and Hornet had a character line, a ridge that ran front to back about 3 inches below the deck hull joint

seen here as where the word donzi is written

there was some talk about the Aussie built 19 footers the one pictured did had that style deck.

the 19 footer was known for the flare of it's fwd deck ( narrow hull wide deck sorta like a golf tee) the boat pictured doesn't look to have that flare

Thanks Joseph, but it's definitely a 19 foot (5.8m) boat.

Mattyboy, just wanted to say thanks again for all your assistance. I went out to have a look at the boat today and can confirm the hull is splashed from a Donzi 19 St Tropez, but it's definitely not a Donzi.

Some additional research revealed the following which might be useful to know in case a question similar to this comes up in future.

Back in the late 60's a company by the name of Admiral Marine brought the 16 and 19 molds to Australia. When Admiral Marine went bust, CO Jensen bought the molds and began to produce boats under the name of Donzcraft.

Not quite sure which, but it was either Admiral Marine or CO Jensen who designed the deck seen in the above pictures.

Unfortunately this boat is not in great shape and will require a substantial amount of work to bring it back to it's former glory. Negotiations continue:wink:

Thanks again Mattyboy :wink::)

I think you mis under stood. I gave a comparison of the two boats so you could clearly see it was not a 7 meter. But thanks for pointing that out. I have a hard time with counting to three:wink:

Not to mention I missed that episode of sesame street.

Right you are .. But I have to admit , without knowing the difference in scale due to photographic differences , they do look awfully similar.
It's almost hard to believe that the original boat in question is only 19 feet.
(without any other reference points)
