hi guys its Daniel from Sydney Australia i have a 1974 16ft with 302 V8 with a 270 volvo leg i have blown up the damper plate which i can get here so thats ok
but the bell housing and adaptor is a holman moody
the adaptor (C8HM-4A50A-MB2 ) and it shaft is in very bad condition with all bearing gone and very pitted i only have the remains of the bearings in the housing and the 3 circlips
Does anyone have any info in this or spec or exploded veiw so i can get it repaired or machined?

Compare standard Volvo Penta AQ270 parts to what you have. I would expect they are more the same than different.

Post up some pics of the bell housing and adaptor for us to look at and compare.

DD,

Frank is correct the bell housing is a holman moody part but may be able to be replaced with standard volvo stuff or possibly even modified ford stuff . the shaft part of the adaptor is a volvo part. to give you an idea of the interchangibilty my 68 had a 289 hi-po motor from HM and a volvo 250 it now has an 87 5.0 ho mustang motor and a volvo 280t drive . the motor as been freshened and marinized but still has all the original HM connecting parts. the 302 didn't change much during it's marine years.

here's pics of my bellhousing and adaptor

I have the parts listed in both the volvo and the holman moody manuals with their respective part numbers.

I think the tailpiece (the blue part in Matty's second pic) should have two bearings. There is a shorter one (like mine) that only has one. I was able to get bearings and seals from local automotive suppliers.

not sure there seems to be some discrepency in the manuals getting different info. I would think there would be 3 front middle and back to support the shaft.
try this, it might help

not real great on swedish looks like one manual has raw item qty's and the other has kit qty's??? what I get from the drawings I have is there is an inner and outer seal and an inner and outer bearing held in place by 4 snap rings one on each side of the bearing.

BTDT on several of these intermediate shaft housings . . .as far as I know all are the same, I rebuilt the original two on my Magnum 27 and am rebuilding two more now for the new drives in the Magnum. Thisd application was twin Chevy power, but the drive plates looks to be the same as what I removed when I disassembled my Donzi H&M drive line years ago.

originally these were built with seals and open bearings, and the housing was partially filled with oil. I rebuilt all with contemporary sealed bearings.

These bearings are standard bearings, as are snap rings. I can set you up with all the parts and ship them to you . . but I need a couple of days toget to this. My shop is crazy busy and I need to dig through my Magnum receipte to get the part numbers for the bearings . . .

Dan, Please email me directly at Mario@VSR1.com to connect and I'll help you out.

I had this issue a few years back I will try to find the info but I suffer from sometimers.
Hollman and Moody, call them the number is on their website.
The shaftis longer than any volvo part so as far asI know this is your best source. They actully had one, and if I remember he had a couple at that time and asked me if I wanted another just in case.
I spoke to Lee,"now let's see, If I remember correctly, I had a couple of themmade up a few years ago, I just have to find them" within a day it was on it's way along w/bearing info and the best ones to use.
I can't say enough about them, so far the greatest I ever came in contact w/in 58 years.
Good luck, CALL THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll look when I get home and see if I can did up anymore info for U.

When i redid mine i used the factory seals and bearings which were sealed bearings..that was not good enough for me so i removed the inner seal on the bearings and packed the center with some synthetic Greece between the bearings so it would never run out of Greece like the sealed bearings usually do over time..i also remover the screw on the top of the housing and installed a Greece zurt and i give i a few pumps every year..no issues for a long long time;)

There are at least two different length shafts in the early drives depending on what intermediate you have. I just recently sold a longer one to Jeff on this forum. I still have a shorter one. I believe they call for the same bearings though. Not sure. Bill

I have both long housing and a short housing units. Both have the same bearings in them. In searches for my project I found there to be two shafts for the short housing unit. One of them has fine splines and the other has course. The long housing unit uses a course shaft only to my knowledge and the shaft is longer.
