My 1967/2011 Donzi Ski-Sporter, C16-409!

I couldn't be more pleased.

Enjoy, and thanks to everyone who has supplied help, guidance, moral support and words of encouragement.

27 months and 4.5X over budget.

I took it out tonight (Reed's Lake, unfortunately without Parnell), and it ran/performed flawlessly. I love the sound with the inline mufflers. Pleasant, and not barky/harsh like SBC can be with 3" exhaust.

Personally "Drum Roll" is weak! More like "Base Drum" great job, first thought that come to mind is you in your white suit standing in a cloud of dust! The dust has settled and turned into another fine Classic Gem!

Bill,

The rubrail looks integral to the hull.........is it?..........very nice.

It is the original, aluminum rubrail. It was pretty dinged up, and looked bad, so I had it powder coated white. The powder coating filled in most of the dings, and looks great!

I got the idea from the George Carter. He powder coated the rubrail on his Minx to a brilliant red, and it looked great.

Budget.............

So the kids didn't have tuition for school, you DID take care of the important things!

The boat looks great!
The rail should hold up as long as the boat.

Looks very, very good. Hope to see it this summer in Michigan.

I bet a few folks over at the DMRS would like a glimpse of this beauty too!

Two thoughts came to mind almost simultaneously. One: put on as many hours on the boat as possible. Two: Working on the boat as created some what of a deficit with respect to home projects, and I have already been informed that a MAC-DADDY "Honey Do" list will be arriving in the not to distant future.

I'm going to have the boat in the Adirondacks (7th Lake in the Fulton Chain) 8-6 to 8-13. I'm looking forward to that a lot!

Wow, Bill. What a great looking Donzi. I like the slight modifications you did to it - they really add to the functionality. 4.5X over budget sounds about right - lol. Another Bill

No, but I've driven to Long Lake. It was a Long trip!
(At least much longer than I was expecting).

BTW - Mapquest pegs Inlet to Ti at 2 hrs 20 minutes.

It would be a great ride on a motorcycle. 2 years ago I rode from Grand Rapids, MI to Saranac Lake, NY. The most memorable part of the trip from a ride stand point was from about White Lake to Saranac Lake.

Towing a boat, maybe not so nice.

Looks great! And just think, even over-budget it's a bargain compared to $80K for a new one! You can use that argument when the wife starts in with the honey-do list. 'but I was just trying to SAVE money!'

Superb restoration, Bill!

The amount of labor you spent on this project is one thing, but I for one also appreciate your faithful documentation of the project on your thread.

Swing up to Portage Lake in late July to hook up with Magical Bill and his son Jason, who each have a beautiful restored Ski Sporter. We'll be there on Friday, July 22, and I think some other MADCOWS are planning on Saturday. As a bonus, you can catch his band, The Flying Toasters, in action!

I would also like to give a big personal thanks to Axel.

He represents to me what this site is all about. We have never met, and wouldn't know each other if we were sitting next to each other.

He offered to help me out with the flag decals at a time when there was no other source. I sent him a straight on shot of the ones on the boat, which were horribly beat up, and he sent me back a file with them recreated perfectly. I did have to "wing it" at the printer picking the colors, but he made it possible.

He also spent his time, using his remarkable talents, when I sent him a picture I had taken of the Dodge Rumble Bee. I simply asked him if he could make it into something more appropriate for a Donzi. I loved what he did so much, I had decals made, and you can see one of them on the starboard transom.

He willingly gave of his time/talents to help out someone he only knew through the site. Many, many others also stepped up to help, as recently as last night when I spoke multiple times to mrfixall about a pesky intermittent outdrive trim problem.

This is when the site is at it's best; Donzi enthusiasts helping other Donzi enthusiasts out of appreciation for the boats.

I hope I didn't just bury Axel.

Amazing project! As I get my own ski sporter ready for this week at the lake and start looking at all the things I want to get done...I can sure appreciate all the work you have put into your boat. Simply Beautiful! Nice Job!

4.5X over budget, I can relate to that one too LOL. How does that old saying go...? "Lord if I happen to die tonight, please don't let my wife sell my restored ski sporter for what I told her I paid for the whole thing"
