Had to tow someone in sunday and when I dropped them off I hit a rock on bottom at idle. It was hard enough that the motor stalled out. Anyways, I limped it back in and this is what I found.

I'm wondering if I might need to file an insurance claim on it or just fix it myself with prop work and a skeg guard. Deductible is $500, I'm thinking the prop can be fixed, but the skeg is my worry. Are these skeg guards worth fixing it with, Will it drag me down in performance? Prop shaft seems ok, no wobble or warp that I can tell, no vibration on the way in, no fluid loss.

Prop definitely needs to be straightened out. Then put it back on and see how it runs

The skeg damage won't impede your movement. You may lose a slight bit of steering as the skeg acts like a rudder. It looks like just the trailing edge. A shop could weld a new piece on there for you.

I would not go through insurance. My guess, prop 100-200, skeg 100-150.

As Mr. Fixxall for his prop guy's info. prices are great.

I'd probably just leave the skeg, but that's me. I've had much worse than that before and the boat ran fine.

You always buy a skeg guard. I have one from CP Performance for similar reasons. They look sweet on the drive and dont' add any drag that you would ever notice. They are also way stronger than a new skeg. Might want to buy a new prop though. Not worth making an insurance claim.

Thanks guys! Skeg guard and prop work here we come. Can't leave it all jagged and ugly, It's a Donzi for Christ's sake! :)

Great for you being the good guy and towing someone in. Really to bad about the prop and skeg but I think the above is the direction I would take.
