Hey everyone

Happened to come across a late 70's early 80's 22' hornet I believe. It has a 351 crate engine. Owner does not have time to put project together. I am not too familiar with the Donzis but have always wanted one. He is asking 4500 for the package. The drive however is a volvo penta..should this raise any flags? I will try to get the HIN when i got back...boat is in great shape..

Thanks for any help!

Jim

Welcome to the forum!

Nothing to worry about with the Volvo drive. There are plenty of them out there still going strong. Props used to be a bit of an issue, but one of our former members worked wth Solus to develop a prop that almost everybody agrees works very well. Plenty of Volvo knowledge on the forum - I'm sure we can walk you through anything that might come up.

Zelatore-

Thank you for the quick response! Are there any defining features to figure out what model/year the boat is bu just looking at it? I believe it to be late 70's, early 80's but it is tought to say..I just dont want to spend the money on something I will lose on right off the bat!

Thanks!

Welcome to the best Donzi forum on the net!

Sounds like a good deal if that engine is still new. Should be very few problems with the completion. But for all your questions, you are in the correct place.

As for identifying the boat, I'm not sure of the current new member limitations but posting pictures as a sure fire way of getting that ID. Plus we LOVE boat pictures here!

Welcome...Nice boat. Consider a reputable surveyor even at stated price. Lot's of Volvo help here as well.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I was able to get the hin off the boat. It is a 77 and not sure about anything else. The hin is listed below. Anyone have any details? Thanks!

i'm not sure if the Ford / Volvo combo was available in '77, I thought matty said '76 was the last year, not to say it isn't a '76 leftover combo though..

DMR21130D177-GT I think this HIN correction should be noted, should show to be a D instead of a zero, that would make it hull # 130, almost to the end of the run, so surely it had a Chevy at birth, not a 351 Ford...

Thanks everyone for the replies!

I took a nother look at it...it does in FACT have a new 350 with 1 hour on it...the seller was not too sure..I have been doing some research and the boat that I have been looking at has rails around the transom..i could not find one on the internet that matched...The owner is looking for 4500...does this seem resonable?

Thanks

Alot of times the motors in marine applications were a year older serial# then the hull. do not why but have found that to be common, especially in the 1960s thru late 70's boat i have been involved with.
