What is a 16 "barrelback"?????
If one was looking for a hatch, especially from an old boat, one would need a donor hatch or one usable to pull a mold from. Unless you are lucky enough to find one from a junker or spare parts. Newer hulls aren't necessarily the same as the old. Especially after the OMC take-over.
Others can give you much more detail.

You could always build a plug to make the mold. I built a plug for my 99 16 engine hatch and it came out beautiful. Took about 10 hours to build but better than spendin the bucks for the replacement, plus I used tooling gel for the mold so I could get repeated pulls if anyones interested at half the price of others.

If 18 and 16 are same dimensions you can use mine to make mold.
The 16, 18 & 22 classic hatches & openings are not the same. They are not all interchangeable. The hatches get bigger as the model gets bigger.. I have hatch molds for 16, 18 & 22 in my shop..
