once you let us know what heads, pistons, intake, carb, comp ratio, and rpm expectation you want, then maybe you can be assisted..

cam choice is the LAST thing to choose

otherwise your into a catalog masturbation of trial and error, and never getting there

stock except for the manditory RPM air-gap and holley HP. would like to keep it down as close to 5K as possible.

i hate when that happens!

425 hp max and the bottom end will blow..

your engine has weak rods,3/8 to be exact and wont support 500 hp..

isky 396271/281-14 cam

find a set of pre 70's oval port closed chamber heads to raise the compression
3856206 65 396 heads with 97 cc chambers
3909802 67 396 with 101 cc chambers
edelbrock air gap

holly marine hp 750 cfm carb

and scorpion roller rockers

this combo will give you 425 hp with tons of torque but like i said your bottom end is limiting you to get 500 hp with out strokeing the engine to a 489..

We assume you are talking about small peanut port Hi-torque stock 330 heads ?
They will greatly limit your horspower because of their low flow capacity .

I gotta ask......
Why would you bother when there're so many 502's and other more "correct" engines around?

Some of the 330's had 2 bolt mains. worth checking that first.

The MK IV 4 bolt man bearing cap blocks have the words HI PERF PASS cast in large letters on the left side in fr'ont of the oil filter boss ara on the left side of the crankcase.

2 bolt main cap blocks do not have this marking.

I used to think this was always true but my 78 Merc 330 had the Hi Perf Pass cast-in letters but when I opened it up...just 2 bolt mains. I still used the block but I converted it to 4 bolt mains and built my current engine. Maybe mine is an isolated cass.
