Not necessarily. Rooms are all set. Still working on the food issues.

Food prices are a large part of fee, so we are looking at alternatives to keep the prices low and manageable.

Do you think we will get 23 or more boats, and 70-100 people to attend the SEADOGs Hometown Rally?

Working on slip space/cost and food costs. Would really help me get this to bed and post all info tomorrow or Friday!

Thanks.

I will check my work schedule, if I am off I will plan on attending, and will let you know. I am interested in any Donzi Owner groups in Florida, I am in Central Florida, but travel to both coasts, and plan to go to the Keys this Summer. I have a 1976 Donzi Classic 18 with a TRS 280, and a fresh 383. Currently going through sterndrive, new bearings and seals, to get ready for vacation in July. Trying decide between North Florida lake or Keys. Maybe Lake Harris, is there anyone with info on this area?

Sid,

The Florida group is know as the SEADOGs. It is an informal group of owners. We usually have gathering in the spring for the antique boat show on Lake Dora and if all goes well, the gathering in Sarasota in October. The Sarasota event is by far the largest event in FL.

There are some other random gatherings throughout the year that individuals put together, such as the Miami Boat show run to the Keys and the cross-FL (Okochobee) trip. These are not on any type of schedule.

Welcome.

I would like more info on the SEADOGS group, as well as Florida events, I actually work in Okeechobee so the cross Florida trip would be really cool to me! This is a Caloosahatchee River trip I would assume, so it would be from Fort Myers to the Atlantic coast? We currently go to Winter Haven to run that chain of lakes regularly, and are planning to go to the Harris chain of lakes in North Central Florida in a few days if I get the boat back together --- waiting for parts to come in!
Thanks for any ifo.

Hey Mike have you checked out the Salty Dog on City Island for a lunch spot? Located right beside a MarineMax Marina and has a ton of dock space! PM me if you have any questions since I live in Sarasota county and can provide knowledge of the surrounding area. By the way the water cops are kinda strict in these parts so everyone ought to be on their best behavior. One even runs in a flats boat with little to no markings, he's hard to spot.

There are some great places south of Sarasota also. The Waterfront Bar and Grill (south Sarasota) has the largest waterfront deck in Sarasota and lots of dockage, Casey Key Fish House and Tiki bar (Osprey) is a very popular place but has limited dock space, Pop's Tropic grill (Nokomis) fair dock space, Marker 4 restaurant (Venice) enough dock space for about 30 16 footers. All on the ICW bummer is the 25 mph speed limits in the channel to all these places. If it is a calm weekend you can jump outside through Big Pass from Sarasota and run to the Venice Inlet along the beach. There are also quite a few places north of Sarasota in Bradenton along the water that I'm not as familar with but being tourism is our only real industry the destinations are like weeds, kinda endless. Mike check up Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island. And yes I do plan to attend as long as the boat is ready, 2 1/2 year long project will hopefully be coming to an end soon.

You are correct. There are a lot good places around. But, we have to look other factors also. For instance, many years ago we headed south to Venice for lunch. The weather had kicked up, so the Gulf was a mess and most of the boats could not go there. So, we had to use the intracoastal all the way south and back. It was rather sunny that day and temps went into the thousands. :bonk: We all roasted because of all the no wake zones. That really sucked.

So, there are some other factors taken into consideration when planning the lunch run.

B

So, would this be a kid friendly event? Or am I looking for a weekend babysitter???

hdsadey
07-27-2011, 04:12 PM
Yeah I think there are now 3 no wake zones south of Sarasota. Venice is no longer boater friendly for the performance crowd, unfortunately, we locals refer to Venice as God's Waiting Room.. I just looked up the zones for Sarasota county. North of Siesta Key bridge is normal operating speed, hence unlimited.

CLAYMAN is allliiiiiiiiiiiivve!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!

Clayman: of course it is kid friendly - it's boating! But then again... if you were to get a babysitter you could also make it a non-kid-friendly event! The evening events are simply dinner. After dinner it is up to you whether you stay parental or go juvenile like some others :)

Really hope to see you there!

Hdsadey: Thanks for the input. Remember... we want a nice run for Saturday so lunch should not be too close to the Hyatt. Lots of factors to think about. I like all the places you mentioned and will look into them!

Hello to everyone, I just bought my first Donzi, 1996 25ZX, 502 MAG MPI, and wanted to know how much time do I have before the registration comes to an end?
http://i53.tinypic.com/4r82fd.jpg

I found the end date-15 Sept. I will see what I can do to attend. I use to have a smaller boat and did a fair amount of boating around the Anna Marie Island and down to Long boat keys. I was always staying at Pirates Point resort in Ruskin FL when I made those runs.

Thanks Budmann. My wife and I have been to a few boat ralley's, had great times, and made alot of friends along the way. We look forward to meeting the both of you and I'm sure alot more. We just have alot going on here in Jacksonville FL, and not sure what our finanical outlook will be like after we get everthing done at the end of August.

Bad news is we just laid out a fair amount of cash getting this boat in July, and now we are moving to the south side of Jacksonville to a much nicer home. (3 and a half car garage, large in-ground swimming pool, and most importantly, a place to park the boat next to the home.) The move happens this coming weekend.

Hopefully, we will be able to hang on to enough cash to make our way there. it's only 5hrs from our house.

Just bought my 22 classic on the 13th. I am on the Manatee river. We used to do our annual Boston Whaler rendezvous at the Hyatt as well. Great place. I don't think the Salty Dog would be a good choice on a Saturday with that many people. There is a new restaurant on the Manatee river called Tarpon Point that would be a hike(1 hour) but would have PLENTY of parking and space. Not many if ANY places around here where 20+ boats can be accomodated.

HELLO GANG!!!!!!!!

We are getting closer and closer and I am getting VERY excited! All is well and moving along nicely. Finalizing little details as we speak.

We need more people!!!!! Get the word out... when you're boating this weekend, make sure to tell everyone about the Rally!

For those of you who have not sent Registration and Payment yet... please do so. I have to pay for the shirts and goodies ahead of time and therefore need to know how many to order.

I will post the list of attendees in the next day or so!

Hang in there and we'll see you soon.

Only weeks away... can you believe it? I am hot and heavy in the preparation of the Rally Re-Gen and really need some help.

For those of you who are coming.... PLEASE send me registrations and fees! PLEASE, PLEASE! I MUST order the goodies and solidify with the Hyatt! REALLY REALLY need your help here.

Also, SPREAD THE WORD!!! We need more boats and more people to enjoy the fun and sun and camaraderie! I have seen a number of posts from locals and wonder if they are coming. I don't see why not, but I GOTTA KNOW, you know.

Thanks so much for you efforts and I will see all of you soon! HAPPY BOATING!

I am proud to announce that the Donzi Marine Restoration Society (DMRS) is now a sponsor of the Rally Re-Gen event in Sarasota, FL!

Committed to the preservation and maintenance of the Donzi heritage, this group has supported and assisted many groups around the country in their efforts to have Donzi owner meetings and rendezvous'. Add to that their mission to safeguard the Donzi name, provide parts for the classic boats as well as new ones, and continue pushing the mystique that is Donzi, it is easy to see how integral this group has become in the preservation of the precious Donzi name.

Along with the SEADOGs and DonziDirect.com, please help me in thanking and welcome the DMRS to the Rally Re-Gen Hometown Rally!:shocking:

Sheila and I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting some new ones. Great job hosting the event Mike and thanks to the DRS, Donzidirect and Bob Wilson for all the heavy lifting. I have a few pics I will post for all to see. The weather was rougher than the pics will show. We all headed out for a Sat run and the 22's could have made it but it would have been nasty for all . The 28 and the 35 had it much better but we elected to stay close to the pool for many reasons! Bob spun a prop a few miles into the run and had to idle back. We were going to hang with him until the bow kept taking on water at idle. I headed out to put the boat on the trailer, took a short run and soon realized how quick you can be in shallow water and be stuck. I won't go into that but I went out one bridge and came back through another. Just one more reason to stay together.

Sloppy 2's and 3's, with a stiff 20+ knot wind out of the east. About as nasty as it gets on Sarasota bay. Here's a pic that pretty well shows the wave height. If those are five footers, then that's a 50' Criterion! ;)

It did lay down. Bob spun the hub in the roughest area we went through all day as we crossed the middle of that bay. After we left Mike's place we ran behind him in the 35 ZF at 45 ish MPH easy... on the return trip I got in front and was cruising 55 through almost all of the run back except the general area where Bob spun his hub. I'm not familiar with the area and it was rough, I dropped back behind Mike again as he went East of the channel and knows where to go for a flatter ride... when I got over there it was much calmer again than the center of the bay.

The flattest part of the trip was through the Island area where Mike said they did a ton of Donzi catalog shoots in the past. It now sports a 25 MPH limit, but was still fun running through there draggin tabs. beautiful.

The area where Bob spun the hub, between the Bowlee's Creek channel entrance and marker 17, is always the roughest spot in the bay! "The Ditch" (the channel running between North Longboat, Long Bar, and the Sister Keys) has been featured in Wellcraft photo shoots going all the way back to the 1970s, as well as Donzi and Chris Craft more recently.

When on plane in Bob's 28 later in the afternoon and more than one came OVER the side bow....I think a tad bigger than 2-3'. Maybe a few rougue waves? :hyper:

Sorry, just had to ask........The medium blue 22' Classic. Any chance that boat once lived up in the northern state of Ohio? It's a replica of the one I used to have. Sure do miss that boat!

Who-ever owns that one, I love the color and I wish you many happy memories with your Donzi.

Scott,

I remember your boat. Was real nice.

This one came from Michigan originally and then Florida.

Bob, Mine that color was special ordered with that medium blue hull & stripe. Mine was ordered by an owner I believe here in Ohio, but kept on Lake Cumberland in KY. MI dealer brought it up to their dealership where it was sold to me. Not sure if mine went back to MI or not after my ownership. Can't remember if it was a 97 or 98 though. All I know is my daughter & I loved our Classic.

Hope you have many wonderful memories built with yours. She is very pretty!
