Buddy, I don't know how handy you are with a wrench, but by doing most of the assembling myself I built my 450hp 406ci sbc for less than $4500. Roller cam, J&E forged pistons, severe duty/inconel valves, Dart heads, all the stuff needed to let it run 4500 or 5000 for fairly long stretches. Just something to think about.

Where are you?
I'm in MA and have a good running Mercruiser 350 I pulled out of my 18 when I built my 383. I'd let it go cheap.
PM me if your interested.

This isn't a bad idea also. When I first went from ford to chevy I bought a running merc motor MOP had taken out when he built his 383. There's a difference between 300 and 450 hp though.

Is a Donzi "Barrel Back" 18 like Buddy has here really going to be as fast as the later Donzi 18 with it's keel & hull design?
Does it really need a high horsepower engine ?
Should the early original H-M Ford power be retained to keep such an early boat all "original" & retain it's future collector value ?
These are two questions Buddy needs to ask himself .

I asked myself those questions a long time ago... I want Merc at least a 350 and shooting for around 325+ hp. I already have a Bravo 1. She will look origionalish until the hatch is open.
