I'm wiring this particular switch and I need some help in what function does what.
I have moved the anchor light socket to the former location of the rear lifting ring. I understand the 360* mast mounted anchor light is lighted when the "anchor" position is selected. Does the aft side of the mast light light when the nav position is selected?

If it is a 3 way switch
usually they are
off
on A
on A+B

is that the switch you have or is it different??

I'm trying to figure that out as I write.

It is a double pole/double throw switch so that one side of the switch is on either way it's thrown, so it can be made to work that way.

refer to pic....hook up the switch like you were going to wire it in the pic witha diode,,when the switch is in on position forward it will light the front and rear lightwhen you flip the switch to the lower position it will just light the rear..the diode will keep the power from feeding the front light and just the ancor light will be on..

Fixx's option works in a SPST switch with a DPDT switch try this

I have a off pull 1 on pull 2 on 1+2 switch basically the same function.

I think I've done it!
In the picture, you'll see I've run two wires from the breaker to the two center positions of the switch.
The side at the top of the switch is a double throw, so the forward side of the mast light is on the right (white/blue). The aft side of the light is on the near side as it is "on" either way.
The left side of the top of the switch is hooked to the bow light.

it would be up to specs
If a donzi classic is equipped with a combo nav light red/green in the same fixture . then it can be configured with an all around white light (at the stern) mounted so it is 3 meters above the nav lights. with electrical switching to have just the all around white light on or both the white light and the red green nav lights. ( right side of the pic)

If the red green are in a seperate fixture then a mast light must be used on the center of the fore aft line of the boat ( left side of the pic)

Geee....those pics look familiar. Been studying for your CG license?

(the colregs test was annoying, but not nearly as bad as the weather part - all couds pretty much look the same to me!)

so the all-around stern light can be on with nav lights on, not just the aft side of the stern light

no, aft is out when running lights are on. transom light turns on with bow light

Masthead should be forward of the operator ,to prevent glare. It also will shine on navigation aids and the dock when you come up to it.It also does not become obstructed by passengers movement.
The all round transom light behind the passengers is for open, and bow riders .Any boat with a deck should have a masthead, just for the visibility aspect.

The mast head light needs to be as close to or on the fore aft center line as I read the regs. It has nothing to do with driver position or causing glare. Is your masthead a full 360 degrees?
I believe the regs are geared to have your lights seen by others and not to help you navigate or dock that's what dash lights and docking lights , and illuminated ATONS are for .

also as I read the regs there are two exceptible setups for runnings lights on boat the size of a classic in this link they would be figure 1 and figure 2
http://www.boatingbasicsonline.com/content/general/4_2_b.php

and it seams that up to a 22 classic is not required to have anchor lights depending on where the anchor. but in either setup the white light should be seen from a full 360 degrees either by the stern light and mast light or a single 360 degree light.

the regs for the mast and stern lights can be found here
http://www.boatus.com/boattech/uscg.htm

the white light is always 360 degree weather an anchor light or running , in your setup Joe what do you have on while running and what do you have on while anchored?? this is as I understand them with the difference of shall and may .

surprising that some boats come from the factory non compliant

This is also MY setup. I absolutely love it when compared to the aft 360. The aft 360 deg lights cause a horrible glare while driving, these are like tiny (almost) worthless little headlights. But there is no glare while underway. The little stern light makes the wake/prop wash look cool at night too! Then when at anchor, you flip the switch and it lights up the cockpit.

I am considering replacing all of the bulbs with LEDs, for a good power savings. It will also help to keep me from burning the crap out of my hands as well!
