volvo external steering wing plate

I'm looking to borrow a wing plate for external hydraulic steering for a volvo 280. I want to borrow one to 1) see if I could get external steering to work on a fairly busy transom and 2) to use it as a template to get another fabricated. I know Poodle had some made up a few years ago, but none are left. If anyone has one I could borrow I'd take very good care of it and return it promptly.

might be worth a trip to the boat yard, the bigger boats with twin volvos usually had tie bars and plates that were for external steering connections. Might find something you can use.

i will be doing one as well in the near future but im going with my own design and it wont be likr the one that relys on the 4 top cap bolts:wink: it will be way cooler design..

the last one i saw was a one off piece. it used a plate that had a saddle that used the 2 side connections from the helmet( which was removed). it attached to the 2 outer bolts of the cap. the plate had a cut out to allow checking of the drive oil dipstick. so it fastened to the drive at 4 points 2 on the side of the drive and 2 at the top of the drive. the plate extended about 2 inches from the cap in the back to allow the ram connection some room to work. the plate had provisions for dual rams but the system was only a single setup.

This is what the Latham plates Poodle had made look like. Mines installed on the drive already or I'd send it to you. I can give you exact sizes on the spacers and bolts if that'll help.
