You can check info I got from CC the chief engineer at Donzi when they were in Sarasota FL. This is posted on another thread - "Mark's thread on 22ZX." Donzi at peak production was doing aproximately 400 boats a year across 10 or 15 models of boats about 40 of these per year were 22ZX. Producton ran 10 or 15 years so go figure - not a common boat. There were a couple of variations - early boats before 1999 did not have a "step hull" and did not have a windshield. 454 and 502 Mercruiser were the common power - later ones had the small chevrolet engine which made the same horsepower as the low performance 454 - aprox 310 hp. Big engine was the 502 which made 415 hp. Some could have been made with the Merc Racing 500 EFI but have never seen one. Later hull designs with the "step hull" could have tricky handling and could spin out if not trimmed properly. The 22ZX was a modern hull design and a very good boat the last of the production run was for the US Government. 22ZX speed was generally higher than boats of similar power and size. I don't think anyone got one over 85 GPS even with a supercharged engine this is conjecture of course - Donzi chief engineer said it would run 100 GPS but this is a fast speed for so small a boat. With the smaller engines the boat ran 60 GPS, with the big engines it ran 70+ GPS. An early 22ZX was featured in the movie "The Eliminator."

I think that the 1st step hull for the 22ZX was in 98. I can say this as I owned one before I went to my current 26ZX.
