as far as i know thay make 3 versions..300 hp,330hp and a 385 hp..get a serial # and make sure its not a 300 or a 330..cuz thats about all you can do with those engines..they have weak bottom ends..385 has good forged internals.

wow - I picked up 35 HP by reading this post. Actually the 502 has 415 HP. The 454 MPI has 385. the 7.4 I think is rated at 330

Mr Fix is correct about internals

In the late 90s, I believe both Merc and Volvo rated their low-end fuel-injected 454s at 310 HP. Not sure if anything changed after that.

ya, i was talking crankshaft. seems the way to go with boats.

cars its all about RWHP unless your FWD!

the key here is he needs to find if its a 454MPI or a 7.4MPI.

he said 454MPI so i said 400+ @ the cranshaft.

and i dont think you picked up anything but an attitude.

Read his original post smart a$$...........he states it is a 300hp motor.....he is obviously confused what he is looking at so I suggested finding out for sure if it is a Mag motor, which is 385hp.....I am aware what a MPI 454 is, I am also aware of the EFI version and the carbed versions etc.......:bonk:

only after a certain year.

don't know about that but an MPI would definitely be rated at the propshaft

apparently the change from rating at the crank to rating at the prop occurred in 1992

if your intake looks like this then its the good engine that gives you a better foundation for building like install a procharger and remap the pcm and have close to 600 hp..

if you have this with the plastic cover then leave it alone..
