After taking a 2 yr getaway from the Donzi I Started to take on the task of rebuilding the Donzi, ( motor wise) and a major cleaning of the boat after sitting.

While cleaning the transom on the starboard side I looked up and found the HIN# DMR2421730.

Can somebody here tell me what all the #'s mean?

Thanks

if it is 24 foot long drop the 0 it's a 1973 24 footer hull number 21 now you have to tell us what it is a doral, spirit,spitfire or el pescador. or the 0 is actually a D and it would be a doral

"All boats manufactured or imported on or after November 1, 1972 must bear a HIN. The HIN is a 12 character serial number that uniquely identifies your boat."

Entering DMR into the first search field, brings up the manufacturer as Donzi Marine. http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic1.aspx

I had a 1976 Donzi X-18, hull number DMR181370576; the numbers break down as follows:

DMR = Donzi

18 = 18 Classic

137 = hull number, it was the 137th built (since the beginning, not that year)

05 = May

76 = 1976

http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.html

This is why Fix suggested the last 2 digits were wrong; 1930 can't be the year.

Also, your HIN appears to be missing a couple numbers, as it should contain a total of 12 characters. DMR 24 217 30. I could understand it being;

DMR = Donzi

24 = 24'

217 = 217th hull in the series,

But then 30 can not be a month, or a year. There should be 4 digits here, not 2.

post a picture of the boat, if it is a 24 footer they only made 2 24 footer hulls that i know the Chisholm era 24 doral,spitfire,spirit,el pesc and the OMC era blackwidow so it's a 70's boat or a 90's boat.
prior to 1984 the mfg'r could express the model year any way they wanted 2 digits 4 digits in the HIN

DMR= DONZI MARINE RACING
24= MODEL
21= 21ST HULL BUILT
73= 1973
D= DORAL

I know its a doral as it has the original fiberglass wrap around windscreen and glass in it as well as the original Donzi insignia in the fiberglass wrap around, Boat has the steering placed on the right and from what I understand has the high back buckets with the foldable seats that came on dorals.

Thanks for all the info and would love to hear some more history for any who might have some! :)

the 24 footer was a harry schoelle (sp) design( Aronow had nothing to do with it) it was a new method of construction basically the hull and deck liner were glued together to form one unit. the hull came in 4 models . from 1972-1977

spitfire 2+3 classic type no cuddy low flat foredeck
doral cuddy with high windshield
spirit cuddy with lower windshield
el pescador walk around fish center console

usually they came in twins this looks to be a single

some other thoughts , these were big heavy boats that ride the rough very well . the early ones were all twins. In 73 this would be a twin 350 and volvo 270 boat maybe a 280. the 280t is newer than that I bet the boat was reworked over it's lifetime to a single. Someone got tired of the fuel bill.
It is a good looking boat .

Thanks for info, my understanding is that it was originally orange and was in the Chicago boat show, was purchased and made its way to Greenbay WI.
where it lived its whole life untill I acquired it and brought it to within 35 miles of its birthplace.

Interesting post , i was just looking at my H.i.N and it is DNA (Donzi North America) c6007J394 So i am thinking it is hull number 007 (sweet) made in 3-94 . I am assuming the C6 means classic 16 My question is what is the J for ?

I called current Donzi marine and they told me the designations. I assume they were correct. They have records but not sure how far back they go.
