Donzigo Jr. put a new 300HP Vortec engine put together by Gary King, King Marine Engineering, in the 1986 Classic 22, that he bought last July. After chasing various engine gremlims for monthes, he's got it running very nicely now. So, today, he bought a new 23 Mirage with a sweet finish put on the leading edges by Matt at Throttle Up. Jr. Jr. had previously been running the boat at 54 MPH and 5,200+ RPM with the old junker prop that came with the boat. Today, with the new Mirage 23, he clocked the boat at 68 MPH at 4,800 PRM's. What a difference! Also, he now cruises at 3,200 RPM and 40 MPH. all speeds clocked with a GPS.

My top speed in the Z-33 is 60 MPH. Oh well, he can hold a table for me at Mar Vista or the Bridgeview, until I get there.......:-)

Sounds great Richard! That's a damn good speed for a 22 with a sbc. I think Gary may have been sandbagging a bit when he said 300 horses. :)

That is great news Richard and Jr., what an improvement. Knowing what King can do with a wrench, I am guessing he may have even snuck a few extra ponies under the hood wink

We haven't had it dyno-ed; but, knowing how conservative Gary is with claims, my guess is that it's pushing a few more than 300HP. It has Stainless Marine exhausts, a specially modified intake manifold, and Gary said it had different pistons and cam. So, who knows for sure, what he did to it. But, one thing is certain, this little 1986 Classic 22 is fast!

Yea, I have that same set-up with a 23' Mirage and I can just barely break 60. Maybe I need to send it to this guy you mentioned.

Glad to hear it's in the water. Mine is back in the driveway, so if the Donzigo boys would like to meet up the Staples boys are ready and willing! :D :D :D :D :D

Some of the Staples are more willing that ready... now if I can just figure out what this gizmo attaches to I can get it off the work bench. Hopefully back together this weekend :(

He's runing an Alpha drive. Not sure about the ratio: is it 1:50/1?

Buddy, we are defintely going to be out Sat & Sunday. David says he wants to go down accross Tampa Bay to have lunch at Mar Vista on Sunday. Isn't it suppoesed to rain Sunday?

Richard... yes, if the drive is the original, then it is a 1.50-1 ratio. Same as mine. I'm not sure about the weather, but there is going to be some great footballSunday. Would love to go on Sat. Missing my little classic. Let's touch base this week. new home # 727-786-3763 cell 727-251-6788.

Fishboy...you are welcome to ride with me.

Richard, how about Mar Vista on Saturday? I think the weather is supposed to be better, and I need to test run the Formula.

Cuda, That's when I'm planning to be down there. Where do you put in at? I'll be coming out of Tarpon Springs. If you are coming down and would like to hook up for the run to St. Pete, let me know. My number is in this thread.

Jr. spent the day, yesterday putting in the most "kick butt: stereo I have ever heard in a boat. It's simply great! Then, John Mithcell, (John & Bea) came over and we took both the Z-33 & 22 to the Bridgeview for an end of the day Corona. Well, it is the first time we have been side by side ina while. I'm doing a solid 60MPH, it's all my beast will do. And, Jr. it beating me; but, not y much. So, I might say that his claim of 68MPH might be more like 60 plus ?. I don't think he does 68. but, he's faster than me!

Thanks, John for being our gopher to the tool chest so many times. It was a bit chilly; I think around 65/70. Guess we shouldn't complain. Thanks for coming by. It's always fun! You & Bea should move to the "world of boating", someday. Trouble is that, if you did, you & I might have to quit our day job :-)

Hey Richard,
glad to hear you guys got out yesterday. Sorry I could not hook up with you guys, but did not get my motor back together until just before dark.

Took it out today for a while and put a few break-in hours on the powerhead. So far so good. Can't wait to see/hear Jr's new reciever, hopefully we can hook up next weekend.

Budmann,
I am definately in for this weekend. Have 6 hrs left of breakin, but iif I keep it under 3500 rpms, MAYBE you can keep up LOL.

Richard,
gives us some details on the stereo and the installation. Did you take pics? Might make a good "how to" article since (knowing you) I am sure the installation, wiring, everyhting is flawless.

Fish boy... why don't you try and get the remaining 6 hours of breakin done by the weekend, so we don't all have to idle around the bay all day. LOL :D :D :D :D
