OK, so I'm heading home from the cabin today in the '95 Mustang GT and I-75 is down to one lane and it's raining and I have a semi in front of me. Out of nowhere comes a pothole from hell. I swerved to try to miss it but this thing was huge and there was no time or room. Bang, bang! Took out both right tires. I get towed to the nearest tire store and had them put on a cheap used tire and the micro spare on the front. Did 48 mph the rest of the way home.

I'm thinking that the cheapest way to replace these tires is to order them online. They are BF Goodrich. The front is G Force T/A 275/40 ZR 17. The rear is G Force Sport 275/40 ZR 17.

Anyone know where to order them at the best price?

tirerack.com

They also have local installers.

Costco an option, but must be member and has limited selection.

The rear tires did come from Costco. I'll check tirerack right now. Thanks.

+1, tirerack.com is great. They have partnered with local installers to get you a good deal on installation.

Also, GET THE ROAD HAZARD PLAN! I also lost 2 tires on the BMW on Friday due to a pothole in Chicago. If I had had the protection plan, they would have been replaced for free :(

I order all my tires though www.discounttiredirect.com (http://www.discounttiredirect.com). Tax free as well as free shipping and wholesale pricing.

Just checked and they are $11 higher per tire at that site.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?pc=38500&counter=2&ar=40&rd=17&sw=false&cs=275

Both sites have the $50 rebate.

OK, wait a minute. With free shipping discount tire would be $552 delivered. At tirerack I am paying $560 delivered. Both send a $50 rebate. So DT IS cheaper but not by enough to cancel my order.

Yup. I've bought more tires from Tirerack over the years than I can count.

And another +1 for the road hazard. I don't know what it is about BMW's, but we've killed 3 or 4 front tires (of different brands) on our 335 in the last 3 years.

But I have to admit, I'm not a huge BFG fan for street tires. I do run the Gforce R1 for a track tire, but I usually look elsewhere for day to day rubber.

Michelin Pilots if you've got the coin. Kuhmo if you're pinching pennies.

Discount Tire Direct is usually my second choice, though they seldom beat TireRack. Stay away from TireBuyer. I bought an el cheepo set of truck tires from them and found they are just a routing agency, they don't actually inventory anything. Was pretty frustrating when I couldn't get the tires shipped to my home (only their installer) and they couldn't provide any tracking info a week after they were due in. (but the tires were cheap and round, so I guess I got what I paid for)

I've been happy with the BFGs so that's what I got. They're a good performing summer tire that won't break the bank and I didn't get the road hazard because I don't put that many miles on the car. The tires were already 5 years old so any road hazard would have expired I guess. I decided to get the set of four or I would have had new rubber on one side and worn on the other. It sux but what can you do. It's just tires.

Held air and they were black, what else do you need.

Tire Rack rules. I had to replace a michelin OE tire my son killed hitting a pothole. Expensive tire - my GF works for a major tire company so I had her check her sources. Tire Rack delivered it for less than the best local wholesale price she could get.

Back when they only had their original place in northern Indiana, a couple friends and I loaded 4 sets of wheels in the back of my Lighting and made a weekend road-trip up there to buy tires. Free mounting, and gas was cheaper then than the shipping.

Got tires for the truck, a 911, a Lancia, and two Alfas all in one go, plus got to check out their facility. Of course now it's probably twice as big plus they've added two more warehouses in NV and somewhere in the south.

On a truck, not much! Of course, I was planning to sell it when I ordered them, so I wasn't looking for much either.

I used tirerack also Carl. Great to deal with and my tires were oversized.
Glad it worked out for you

Cool. I'm sure they shipped out of South Bend, IN, so it was only a few hundred miles to your place.

Luckily for me, they now have a Reno warehouse so us CA types can get reasonable shipping too.

They are a wonderful company.

Curious if you can order trailer tires from Tire Rack and still get the Road Hazard coverage?

yup. 17x9s to replace my 17x7 1/2s. Offset is the same and the tires are supposed to be on a 9 inch minimum width wheel anyway. It says they will fit a '95 Mustang. Can't wait to see them on there! The old wheels weren't looking too hot anymore and were making the car look bad :(:

I understand they have a warehouse in Delaware. I recall my last set came in two days with no special shipping, to my address in MD. Very good operation.

No, this car has the same rubber all the way around. It really hugs the road and is my road trip car when now pulling the boat. The car is still really sharp even though it is 16 years old. I'll post pics when I get the wheels on later this week. Meanwhile.....the '82 GT has the fatties in back! This is my for fun car with the 4.10 gear and Tremec 5 speed and built up 5.0 with N2O.
