..........but I could not find the link discussing IR temp guns.

I need one for a service on my VW and I know some good folks on the board have purchased IR guns from an internet company and mentioned it here.

Any help is appreciated.

$34 to $309, don't know what level of quality you're looking for.
(Snow here this morning, Ken, how about out east?)

The Raytek! Cheap and works great.

Here is where I and some others have gotten them: http://www.arizonatools.com/search/?terms=&termsOption=A&manufacturerId=132&excludedTerms=&sortBy=PA&submit=Begin+Search

I have the Raytek Autopro which I would highly recommend. I bought mine on ebay a few years ago (used in the case) for about $65. It has worked perfectly with many uses. Bill

I have a couple of them; can't even remember the brands but one might be a raytech. Seems like the last one was about $50. Handy toys, but I hvae to be carefull when I pull them out or I start walking around taking the temp of everything in sight like an idiot... hmmmm, my desk is 75 degrees; my laptop is 80; the fish tank is 65; the outside window is 60; the secretary is....oops...

They are incalcuably valuable when your doing glass or gel work.
You take the temp of the hull, or parts, the gel or resin, and the ambient air temperature average them for MEKP dosing.

I need it to shoot the transmission in my Jetta when I do it's long overdue fluid change.

It seems there is no more dipstick to check the level, the fluid has to be a certain temp and you then pull a plug.

If I had the correct software, the temp of the fluid would be read from the OBDII port.

Technology, I am trying to embrace it.
