What temp thermostat for a 454/330 carb?

I was thinking the 160 deg thermostat is the correct one. What do you guys think?

I use a 160* in my skiboat's 1988 Chevy 454 HO MK IV.

This 160* was pretty standard operating temp before Electronic Fuel Injection systems & emissions engines began in boats.

Some others only use 140* in salt water use.

160 was standard for salt for many years then like mentioned above dropped to 140 on the injection engines, if you only operate in F/W there is no reason not to go to standard automotive temps. The higher temps are better for your engine, I run closed cooling in my salt pond with a 180.

Yes.. go with the 160. , ecu models do have temps that are different for open loop fuel trim (choke..no choke).. with a carb you can get away with lower therm and it will be fine.

I have been using the Merc Quicksilver [807252T 1] 140 degree in my twin engine 330hp carbed 29' Mirage. The engines run great and are 30 + years old. :yes:

I got to say ,you learn so much over the years. The oil, the operating temp, thermostats. It's like Prego. "it's in there".
