Black Classic 18?

I recently purchased this boat as a restoration project. I originally thought that this boat had been painted...but after tearing it apart I am not so sure. Does anyone know if a black 18' was ever produced? I know that it is a 1981 with the hull id DMR 187271281. I also don't know if the raised rear hood over the engine was a feature or not. I guess i am asking if someone did some modifications to this boat or if it was originally offered this way.

I know a silent member who has an original BLACK 18C (Mid 80s or maybe earlier.) that originally had a SBC. It now has a 454 Bravo 1. :) DJ

I'm going to bet it's original, I've at least seen photos of black hull 18's that were original. I'd also bet the hatch is original too. But there are folks in here that would know for sure.

I love the black with tan upholstery, what a sharp boat. The air filter did catch my eye though. I'm not too sure if that's a USCG approved spark arrestor. Might want to look into that.
