The old wooden Trojan cruiser Argonaut that diver Mike Nelson (LLoyd Bridges) used on the 1950s "Sea Hunt" TV show series was found in very sad condition seveal years ago. It was side-lined for the chain saw & burn pile.
Someone discovered it's past TV history and saved it.
It is now being restored today also like the SS Minnow above.
After "Sea Hunt" ended Bridges bought this Trojan fom the show's producer Ivan Tours . Bridges used it as his family's own boat for many years.

For more details do a web search for Argonaut Sea Hunt Mike Nelson

Trojan was built in of all unlikely places Lancaster County PA (Pennsylvania Dutch Country) by skilled Amish & Menonite
woodworkers.

I remember in the mid 1960s visiting the factory ,with my Father, for a tour as an old family friend of my parents had just ordered a new wooden planked Trojan 32 .

I still remember the big long steam box used to bend & spiral the long 5 quarter hull planking.

Always bothered me that the boat was completely different in the storm vs sailing out of the harbor. There may be 3 different Minnows in the opening of the show.

While this restored boat in the thread is pretty, it doesn't look the part even if it is one the originals.

289,000 back then would buy Hawaii.

Nice boat, but seems like a lot of nonsense with it.

Jaques Costeau's old converted wooden US Navy Minesweeer Calypso is sitting & rotting away while family members & the Costeau society argue over it's ownership, restoration & long term fate.

While Costeau was still alive the Calypso was crushed by a loose steel barge .
It sunk In Hong Kong harbor.
It remained under water for some time before being raised and placed on a barge.
Jaques Costeau was heartbroken.
Many law suits resulted that remained unresolved for years while the Calypso slowly rotted away.

Resoration was stared and then stopped several times~~~
They ran out of money & a dispute between Costeau family members & the Costeau Society placed it's true ownership in doubt.
It now sits rotting away !

Very Sad fate for a once proud research ship.

Costeau never wanted the Calypso to end up only as a floating museum display.

Do a web search for Calypso Jaques Costeau for more details

Yeah....I think there's an extra significant digit in that original price tag....

I never paid attention to the opening shots as I was too young to know anything about boats when it was still on TV, but geez man, at least TRY to make the boats look similar!

This link shows 4 Minnows existed but that opening credit scene shows a fifth! The plot thickens. Anyway I never would have thought that any of them was a beautiful mahogany yacht! http://www.gilligansisle.com/minnow.html
