Recently I have become familiar with the blackhawk/alpha/trs/bravo/konrad/imco/arneson outdrives but know nothing of the Volvo. I believe they are no longer made but still operating on many boats. What does the forum think???? Good/bad. Performance???? parts availabilty. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I am new to the Donzi world.

The newer series of Volvo is very much alive and well, they make a well above average product. The older 200 through 290 are not as fast as the newer versions, but any and all are far more durable than most all others.

ok speedy now we are on the volvo kick!! if your looking for speed then the newer volvos are faster then the merc bravo ''stock''..as mop said they are stronger then the comparable merc stuff..they also make a race version called a volvo DPX-r which is like the blackhawk..

If your not looking to spend allot of money then move on to merc stuff,,volvo will be out of your price range from what i have understood from ???

Yep Volvo is still around & well.

Old Volvo parts can be hard to find unless you are someone like myself that offers them..

It is actually funny but I guess I do seem like a kook. Just trying to zero in on what I want to do and have become a addict on this registry as I was on Racingjunk when I drag raced. I fumbled around with racing for 15 years before I got to where I wanted to be and that was Haas pro stock Cavalier with an 807 CI I developed and my builder and I put together. It was the fastest naturally aspirated powerglide ( 2 speed auto) in country best was 6.70 at 208 MPH. I just realized I need more info to get into a fast Donzi someday.Decided 80 plus in an 18 too much for me and I want to hit the big lakes so I will take Carl C advise and work in that direction. I love all the learning and appreciate the help. I am 66 so another 15 years to get it rolling not in the cards. So I am doing a cram coarse.

Not sure what you're looking for, but there was a used Volvo DP (dual prop) listed here locally (SC) on craigslist for $1,500.00 last week. Ad said the boat endured a garage fire, and he was parting it out.

Sounded like a heck of deal on Volvo outdrive....no evidence of fire damage in the pics posted. Let me know if you would like for me to find that ad, or just check Greenville / Spartanburg SC.

With kind regards,
Phil S.

Mike, You forgot MSA...

Martin (the owner) made me a dealer years ago.. Cool unit, but the expense of importing it on top of the units cost usually makes it prohibitive for most projects....

Your a funny m fer Fixxx... I has a Volvo Dou prop on my Cobalt. It was a hell of a drive. Big and durable and great out of the hole. They do get pricey as you said.

On a side note... and let me prefece this by saying its not aimed toward any one person. When do people stop asking questions and actually DO SOMETHING? :bonk:

There's just somethin' magical about the products those Weismann guys produce.
They don't copy anything!
It's always "clean sheet of paper" designs, and it seems they always work!
If you haven't done so, take a look at their website and look at their automotive stuff!!!!!
All you need is money!
