Hi,

I have been lurking around here for a while. I have always admired the Donzi Classic boat and am now getting closer to actually buying one. I thought about a '16 and the '18 but think I've settled on the '22. I want something that can handle some chop (Clear Lake and Galveston Bay area). I am probably going to wait until later in the winter or possibly spring summer to purchase.

Anyway, I've been looking around a bit and one came up in my backyard on C.L. today. It is an '87 2+3 that they are asking 30K firm. ...Sounds like a lot for an '87 to me. Here is the link:

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks All,

Welcome to the board! If you've got $30k in the budget, you can find one WAAAAAAAYYYYYY nicer than that I'm sure... Sheesh, check the classifieds on this site, I'm sure there are guys with really really really nice newer 22 Classics who would be willing to part with them for $30k! Good luck!

Always some Donzis on Ebay Motors. Check completed sales to see what they are actually selling for, not what the sellers are asking.

I would guess the majority of '87's would be in the $5K-$15K range.
There're exceptions, but boats that old will require a lot of work to keep them in really good condition, if that work hasn't been done, it'll have to.

that's a lot of power threw a alpha 500+ i think i read sounds like trouble just my 2 cents.

Yeah, as George said, an average 1987 with an Alpha drive should be in the $10k to $12k range.

Check out the links Rumblefish posted. Those are nice 2003 models for the same price.

trying to learn market and establish my price range. If I can find a nice one for 15-17K that would be awesome but again, I'm trying to learn the market and establish my price range.

I'd like something that is mechanically sound, strong and reliable. I think i want Fuel Injection ...have a car with two triple webers and quite frankly I'm tired of working on carbs.:convertib:

I'd like gelcoat not awlgrip, I think it is more durable but I'd take paint if I had to.:boat:

It needs to be clean, sound hull but not a show boat necassarily. ...that would be nice but I suspect I'll beat it up a little bit. I'd like to occasionally run it up on the shoreline behind my house when the tide is low.

...my 7 year old asked me to put the emoticoms in there.

How about something in the '94-'98 range. You'll get a 502 w/injection and a Bravo drive. There's been a few over the years in your price range.
You have to be ready to move, and ready to travel to see the boat.

502 with F.I. sounds good to me.

Are there any downside issues with the F.I. engines? Being that it will be in a brackish and salt water environment I wonder if a simple mechanical carb. could actually be a plus in some ways.

About the only + for the carb I can think of is it's easier to tune if you start mod'ing the boat. But then again, a 22 w/502 is already a 70 mph ride, so you may not need to start tweeking. At least not right away...

I wonder how he gets it to 80mph with a 25p prop?? Does the cobra have such a different ratio as the bravo?
And he says "no reserve auction" but the reserve is not yet met??

Don't like the front deck stripe, but overall it sounds like a good deal!

I think I have seen that 93 22 before the strip is unique, nice solid package hard to break.

That boat is 74-75 gps, tops, according to guy who built it. According to me, who has ridden in it, I believe the guy who built it. :)
That is Greg K's old boat. Sweet ride. Wouldn't pay the B.I.N. price.

I actually spoke the owner of that one. Real nice old man and sounds like a lot of work went into the boat. He was supposed to measure dimensions and get back to me. ...garage is plenty deep. Just lacking in height.

At any rate, I want a big lumpy V8.

One thing to take note of (might not mean anything, but...) those pics in the ad are several years old. They were the same pics used in a previous ad.

-just for the record, the owner told me (and I believe him) that the boat has mostly been in his warehouse since they went through it and modified it to accept the outboards etc. He is an older gentleman (71 I think is what he said) and has a few other boats/projects including a Sweet 16.

..anyway, I'm taking a pass on it.
