Need Some Opinions Please

I have pulled the motor on my 21 and am haing it redynoed after the first of the year to fix a persistant carberation issue. Leaves me time to finish the underside of my hatch. I sanded it fairly smooth and painted it white for the summer but I am a big fan of a little mroe pizzaz under the hood. If I refinish it painted like the yellow 19 Pearson did, which looked gorgeous I will be sanding for the next two months Looking for any other ideas people have seen or heard of that might be an option for me

A mirror is my first choice but even if I do that I have to finish off the rest of it and the small areas are really going to be hard to sand if I just paint it

I dont but it was just sanded very smooth and painted which for that boat fit great.
He didn't have any uneven areas to deal with but I can only imagine he spent some crazy time getting it that smooth

Polished piece of stainless steel sheeting with laser cut what ever logal you want to use,then paint the inside of the hatch with a accent color and what ever logal you choose the painted surface will show through it..No screws just glue it into place..

i believe pearsons may have been floated in epoxy.poar it in and let it level and your done..

Thanks SL16 although it still doesnt show the underside of the hatch. Its basically that gray that the engine room is sanded smooth and shiney.
I will show why rigid diamond plate wont work when I get the pics today but I did think of the gloss plastic diamond plate covering the areas that the mirror wont. I could mold it to fit all the nooks and crannies

I like this idea let's take it a step further.

incorporate the donzi logo into a bio of the boat that includes the boats name, model, year ,hull number,engine specs and owners name

like all the stuff that is put on the paper that they staple to the dock when you go to a boat show

then have the polished SS raised and have it back lit by leds

I do like the bio idea except for owners name in case I ever sell it
I painted all the donzi stuff on the boat but used stickers for the name for the same reason I could put 1976 gt 21 and the old sheild logo.

Yep, sheet the whole thing with SS. might radius it into the trough lip and up the 90 degree edge. I like the idea of a "build sheet" with provenance but would add to it. I would balance it with something more personal on the opposite side and the identical size as the build sheet including font wich needs to be decent size to drive the led backlight concept. On the identical panel size to the build sheet panel, I would have a list of special runs; Date, Location of Interest, Miles Traveled and of course Top Speed that outing. I would then have both these panels raised from the sheeting so that they sat on 4 or 6 spacers that would accomadate bolts and let the two panels sit proud of the SS sheet by several inches, enhancing the backlight effort, and allowing you to remove the one sheet that has all your trip details from the boat entirely and mount it with pictures for a family keepsake once you sell the boat. The next buyer can then do his from fresh.

Counter sink a shallow hole into your hatch bottom to accept say 6 bolt heads AND weld heads to top and bottom of sheet. Or flip the idea and still counter sink for the nut and use the bolt bottom up. Hard rubber or similiar "spacer", say 2"-3" thick and slide it snug over the bolt.

I can't be specific on the adhesive/epoxy that would be used for the sheet, but in addition to this I would use those two hatch lift bolts you show on the right side to add to cinching down the SS sheet. Now that I think of it, might require a second hatch lift on left side so you could use those two bolts to cinch down as well and create symmetry left and right. I would just like to have some mechanical fastening in addition to adhesive given the vibrations present. LED's under the 2 inscribed plates, on top of reflective SS plate.

Have to think on that a bit, easy to route a tiny chase/chases in the underbelly of the hatch for the needed wires?

No idea what your hatch gap clearance is but the edge itself of the hatch looks beefy, so I envisioned counter sunk SS allens thru the glass hatch lip, thru the SS bottom cover sheet edge and then nyloc to tighten each. No idea what the spacing would need to be, because it would depend on the adhesive but maybe every 12" around the entire hatch perimeter for good "rivet bling". Now with those at the hatch lip and the 4 bolts + adhesive the sheet is going no where I would think?

Correct. Have to think about the actual material for the two, identically sized, placed, removable, inscribed panels.

Just my two cents P, but I think if you add any bling I believe that it will take away from it all. When I looked at it last spring, I was captivated by how well thought out it was in regards to placement, and especially how clean everything was. It seemed to let you focus on the motor which in my opinion, yours speaks volumes all by itself, especially with the headers being flipped around. One could sit there for quite awhile admiring the attention to detail and trying to figure out some of the "one offs". I would smooth it all out and paint it. Talk to kevin, he does that everyday and i know the price would be right.

Agree with you Tango, I just like the fact that the bling can be hidden when the hatch is down, so kind of a cool surprise when up.

Parn , in the long run you do not need to talk to anyone about doing this type of work or painting , because .......... when i worked at Skater all bottom sides of the hatches were done in three coats with a brush using Imron #555-U and if you prefer using Awlgrip that also is a very good paint and self leveling .

I appreciate that guys but Donzi had quit using that logo by 76 so my logo would have to be the sheild which is what I am leaning towards if anything is scripted back there since I dont want the boat name anywhere permenent and I already have Donzi and gt21 is several places Plus I think the sheild will fit perfectly in my flame arrestor space

Instead of laser cutting the logal i would look into water jetting it out,the lazer will burn the edge and leave it a little jagged and black and blue..

use 2 pieces of ss plating,a shiny bottom piece and the top piece with your logal water jetted out..then use 1/2'' square bar stock and mold it to the outter shape of the 2 pieces of sheeting,,get striped led's and line the whole inside of 1/2'' bar stock with the led's,pick a spot for 2 9volt batteries and a switch..if you hook the batteries in series to make 18volts you wont need to run any wires to the hatch..to laminate all the pieces together that would be up to you.

Parn , if you are interested in having something done in a lazer cut i have a friend who can do this at is shop in Nunica and in fact he is the person who once owned the 32 A that i did all the work on that i show on my Sig line . Parn there also is another person in the Spring Lake area that also does this type of work from Skater logos , speaker grills Ext ,Ext which all seem to look very nice .

I started sanding on my hatch today on the outside section I have been dreading and found that I can hand sand it smooth since it looks like I have enough Adtec on there. Long process but I have some time. I ordered a blue acrylic mirror Friday that I am having custom cut to fit next week. Got the template done today Very time consuming and impossible to get perfect but I was happy with it. I am going to put a 1/8" aluminum plate in the center and either get it waterjet cut or painted and cleared then glue it on. Getting prices on these two options this week.

The graphics shop I was working with doesn't know what the hell they are doing. I picked up this sheet of uncut $ bills at my store for $50. I was going to frame it and hang it in my office but maybe it would look cool on my hatch? I don't know how I'd do it though....
