jeff,

I suspect it has to do with heat and water flow .. . . ?

Dirty Pearl,

What is the heat exchanger between the engines, fluid to air?

And these pics look like they were taken during assembly, is that nitrous?

Would love to hear more about this very nice Magnum!

Thanks for the nice comments. She has 383's with Enderle fuel injection. I made the H pipes and used water from the trans cooler to keep the pipe cool. My 74 is still in the process of being assembaled so I have not run her with this set up yet. With the old set up, 350's with about 350hp she ran about 73-74 range. I am hoping for a lot more now. Before I ran TRS drives with a low X. Now she has the # 2's that have been raised up 3in. I am also am planning on running mor RPM's.

The fabrications for the thru exhaust's look great, especially the end-o- arounds to the rubrail for the raised drives..........The back bench seat has a wall of bolsters in front of it though!......Did you change out for bigger fuel tanks?..........Very nice Maltese!!

X with the #2's

DP,

Great looking Maltese. Did you do a lot of research on the best X-Dim? I have a 78 Starfire that I am pulling off the TRS's and putting on Bravo's. My TRS's were mounted up high, they notched the rubrail, but wasnt sure if I should mount the bravos in the same spot.(that would raise the X roughly 2 1/2") I heard 16 1/2" was the best, but looking for confirmation.

Thanks - Marshall

I was told, you want the bullet or nose 3-3 1/2 in below the bottom of the boat. That's how I set mine up.

You mean the center of the bullet ie propshaft?

Marshall,

I raised my drives 2" from the stock location, and limited myself to this as I didn't want to cut my hatch or ruin my stock rear sunpad look . . Several old time racers told me that 2" was normal "back in the day". With contemporary props that are designed to surface you can go as much as Dirty Pearl has . .

I'm also running Volvos, and the Merc props are further behind the boat . . I'd figure that this also allows for a higher point . . . ????

I have heard that going up 2" is no problem also but Magnum also mounted the drives differently over the years. I think they realized the TRS's were too deep in the mid 70's when they first started, mine was made 78/79' and you can see in the pic I posted they notched the rubrail to gain an extra inch or so. I believe DP's #2 is an even deeped drive than a trs(maby the same) so there is no need to go that high on the transom with a bravo. I also want everything to fit under the hatch with no scoops or mods. I just have to find out if the TRS trans assy is taller from the driveshaft to the top of the housing vs. the bravo. Anyway, fun to think about while we get 12+" of snow.

Did you leave the tanks empty or full?

How much is gas in MI?
Almost all of the places in the SF Bay area are 4.10 and up for high test
some are even in the 4:10-4.20 range
even regular is like 3:95-3.99
Diesel is well over 4.00 more like 4.10-4.20

Mark,

Out here everything is self serve,, Saw this morning on the way to my office that a Shell station had $4.37 for diesel and all grades of gas were $4.00 and up
I heard that some of the marinas still had fuel in the ground from before the prices went sky rocketing and was still fairly cheap.

Dirty Pearl . . .

Noticed that you are running K-Planes on the Maltese mounted following the Vee . . .
I'm about to do this on my 27 . . but was recently emphatically told by two riggers here in the northeast that I need to mount mine parallel to the water surface, ie; flat . .. I know this is done on the newer boats with air slotted hulls . . . what are your experiences and thoughts . . .?

Mario L.

DirtyPearl
03-14-2011, 11:50 AM
Running the tabs at the V will slow the boat down when you use them. Mounting the parallel will allow you to drag the tips without slowing the boat much. So if you are just using the boat for personal pleasure I would run them at the V. If you are trying to get all out speed and handaling set them up parallel.

Fast Shafts 1
03-14-2011, 01:09 PM
MPHATC,
Randy from Typhoon (OPA Racing) just posted on OSO about his trim tabs. He is one of the few that have tried the tabs both ways. He has raced his 27 Kryptonight for years. He initially had them along the V, but changed the tabs to be parellel. His experience was that his boat chine walked badly when placed parellel. He moved his back along the vee.
I hope this info helps-it may just depend on the boat.

mphatc
03-14-2011, 09:39 PM
I've done a bunch of reading on this, seems the air slot hulls run them parallel . .

I'll follow standard application , on the vee, for the reasons above . . I'm not out for all out speed! And a bit of stablity is everything.

Now to find the guts to cut the transom and raise the drives 2" . ..

No, I have no intentions of racing the Magnum. I race the 36 Cigarette, the Dirty Pearl.

I did polish the #2's. It's a pain, but the look great on the trailer. Still working on the boat. It got so hot here in Georiga. The wharehouse where I keep the boats is like a sauna. I am collecting parts again, so that I can finish her this fall.

DirtyPearl

383's with Enderle direct port fuel injection. They have Chevy bow tie heads with angled plugs. I went with custum ground roller cams with 1.5 roller rockerrs and stud girdles. I went with gear drives instead of chains. So she is going to have some gear whine. I went with 7qrt pans and remote double oil filters. A lot of stuff to fit in a little bildge.

What pumps are you running on the injection?
Are you using a primer, surge tank or is the fuel pump close to the rear bulkhead?
I had a birdcatcher on my s/g car, talk about throttle response!
How do you think it will do at part throttle / cruise?
Looks great!

Johnny

DirtyPearl

I am running a Enderle belt driven pump. I am going to run a primer pump by the tank for start up. I have spoken to the guys at Enderle about my application. They informed me the pump supply and the engines fuel needs are on the same curve. They believe she will run fine at mid throttle and like a Bansche at WOT. When I ran them on the run stand the throttle response was outragoues!

johnnywhale
09-20-2012, 04:58 AM
enderle makes a check valve that threads into the distribution block, you need a small marine electric pump with a pushbutton. It helps tremendously with starting, the mechanical pumps don't draw well on the first start. As for throttle response, you may end up needing a Queen Mary sized prop!

DirtyPearl
09-20-2012, 11:30 PM
I am probably going to use a small injector in the hat with a push button elec fuel pump for start ups. Your prob right about the prop. One way or another she is going to be a wild ride!

johnnywhale
09-21-2012, 04:57 AM
if you use the check ball you run a #4(?) line to the block from the pump, no need to drill any more holes.
Keeps that clean look!

DirtyPearl
09-21-2012, 07:21 AM
The Hat has brass plugs where fuel lines would go if you were using it on a Blower. One of my freinds ran Enderle injection on his drag boats, and he is going to set me up with a small injector and pump for priming.

johnnywhale
09-21-2012, 10:41 AM
