I have a 1970, 28' Cigarette boat called ( 28 Open Fish). This boat was the first Model Cigarette ever offered to the Public. I have been wanting to restore it to its original beauty, but due to family health problems I need to sell it. I have priced out the restoration and repower and it can be done for 20k. Once done this boat will be worth 2 to 3 times the investment. I pickeled the 2 250cc in line 6cy motors when I bought the boat. The trailor is included and I had all the wheel bearings replaced.

This is the same hull as a Magnum 27 with a bit more freeboard, hull liner is very similar to the Magnum 27 sedan. Small blocks are an easy fitment

I know of a rebuilt set of SBC and twin Volvo drives ready for this application. period correct and ready to go . . .

You would have to get a better picture of the cockpit.
Sometimes there is a walkaround around the engines, which would in turn make the engine hatches narrower.

Anybody pursuing this? A buddy of mine is mulling it over.

The 6-cyl definitely has the smaller engine hatch. The later models with SBCs got a full-width hatch. IMHO, I'd stick with the I-6s and build 'em up as has been talked about in the past.
Also have to decide whether to just go bracket/OBs and whether to modify from side consoles to center console. Tough to know which will offer the best longer-term value.

A pair of 302 GMC I blocks out to 320, real easy to get gobs of torque out of them.

I'd personally would try to keep it as close to stock as possible.
If looking for a fishing boat, there are better options.
Side consoles w/ forward seating makes this a real party machine, that can handle basic recreational fishing.
I/Os will still give you some nice sound, and keeping it as it left the factory will help it hold some of its historical value.

nice sound

I've been thinking about how a pair of 6cyl through hulls would sound....like a Lambo I bet...
:D

However, here in SoFla at least, OBs on a bracket would probably provide for a higher resale value. The side-console w/fwd seating is definitely cool...imagine how much room there'd be by removing the engine cover...

They sound pretty cool! My dad had a 1974 Cigarette 24 with them! "Hotboat" now owns it....he is bringing it back to life!
