Just curious, can a y pipe be installed without removing the engine. I ask because I would like to put switchable exhaust on my 18. It currently has 4" Stainless Marine manifolds and pipes on a 350. It will probably be a little loud for some of the places I plan on boating. Thanks for your input. Also what is the concensus on the best switchable exhaust for my application

at my GT21 no problem to install the y w/o engine removal- big engine room, depends how much space you have

It will probably be pretty hard to get to the blockoff plate.

It was impossible to do on my 27ZX with a Bravo. A little different story.

It might be possible, but you may find it's such a PITA you'll just wish you'd pulled the motor anyway...

It would be rare to not pull or have to pull the engine to install the Y pipe.. ;) J/ Lakeside

Thanks for you input, now I just have to modify my garage so I can pull the engine. A header and about 8 more feet of depth.:shocking: Not a problem. Any opinions on what swichable I should put on my Christmas wish list.

here's what i use,,they are one of the better ones..they have a linear actuator that allows you to pick a tone level, they are not just on or off..with a momentary rocker switch you can adjust the sound level to quiet to in between or loud..

Now that you have decided to pull the engine, you have an opportunity to "discover" all kinds of projects that are infinitely easier to do without the engine in the way!

I want to thank you guys for the encouragement. I pulled it Thanksgiving day by myself. Glad I did, 3 of the four engine mounts were hand tight . A lot of the fasteners and hardware were not very tight. I was really shocked how easy it was to remove. Start to finish about 3 hrs, with a rain delay or two. Thanks again. Now I need to find a Y pipe.

Ebay is a decent place to look.

What's the number of the Ypipe you need, I have a couple.
