Gidday, I am in Australia and purchased a 16 outboard hull in excellent condition and fitted a 175hp evinrude, i have to use portable fuel tanks as the original fuel tank has a leak that is hard to find. i have pressure tested it and the leak sounds like it is comming down against the stringer.Does any one know any-thing about Australian built donzi doats and does repairing this mean the deck has to come off.
thanks

yep! remove engine amd start taking the rub rail off, then the screws that hold the hull together,,you may have to crawl in front of the boat to look for some glass straps that need to be cut..

look at this trend to get a idea http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=61800

You may not have to remove the deck. If you measure forward from the transom, how many inches forward does the tank begin? Post up a pick or two if you can.

Will measure that and post photos, might get an aluminum tank made up were the ski locker is, what do you think.

doubtful you will get it out without removing the deck,,looks to be to wide unless you sut the tank but how will you get the new one in?? you need access at the whole tank to install it properly..

I have some ideas on how it could be done. If you can get some higher res photos and also provide where the existing bulkheads a located, moving from the transom forward in inches. The downunder 16 Baby's could have been fabricated differently. What year is the hull?

from what i have been told these were made in the early 80s, hull id is SOA-5-018 on starboard side of transom. Is the deck normally glassed down or is it just screwed down as i think this will be the best way to repair the fuel tank.

Hard to tell but judging from the photo the existing tank does not look original, the original was lower and had a 90 degree fuel inlet. My opinion move it farther aft for better top end, I on the advice of Geo the then owner of the fastest 18 in the world installed my tank about 18 inches ahead of teh engine also installed dual batteries aft.

Looking at your pics, you might want to investigate a fuel cell bladder option. Cut the end open that is in the floor tub, stuff in the bladder, then weld back up if you want to keep that mid boat ski pole active. Someone on this board has used bladders and may add more input,

haines hunter v19r,
Have you made any decisions on your tank placement?
