Jacqui and I are talking about a week away at an all-inclusive resort of some type....we have done lots of other types of holidays and right now we just want to sit at a quite, quaint, clean resort and drink and eat.........:)

We are thinking about either Cuba or Mexico, opinions?

Pros and cons and suggestions of areas and resorts to go and not to go?

We have looked on the net and have just been bombarded with travel company BS and it is hard to get actual detailed info on various areas and resorts.....:frown:

Thanks for any input....

cuba is cheaper by far. airfare might not be though because there is generally an island hop somewhere to get there. not sure from CA though. My father in law has gone to cuba a few times, he says tip a few bucks and you'll get the best service you can imagine because all the tourists are used to not tipping by culture.

Mexico is ok, kinda tourist ridden now. when I think of what you describe I think more of Costa Rica.

we hit up a resort that is like that too on our last cruise, at an island called Isla Roatan. that was laid back as can be.

+ 1 costa rica

cuba needs americans to start going so that they pick up the service a little

I won't go to Cuba as long as it's comunist!
Period!
I won't go to Mexico now w/all the problems.
Those Narcos are crazy.

Costa Rica is excellent.

Many of the islands are excellent.

Jim mentioned ther Sunset House in GC.
I've stayed there...35 years ago.
Absolutely wonderful for divers.
But no beach, very rocky shore, and 20-25' of crystal clear water at the shore line.
But then you're not interested in diving.:frown:

Don't rule out Cabo, I have been to most of the places listed the weather in Cabo is by far the most consistent and surprisingly bug free in the evenings. My beloved Costa Rica is not near as good as it use to be, believe me I know I have family there, property and bank accounts I am entrenched but also worried about retiring there which was my dream. The Colombian cartel has pretty much taken over the Pacific coast, I get constant reports from friends that live and do business there. Never ever take you eyes off any possessions left in your rent a car, also watch your mirrors when stopped. I have been going down for 11 years and have had attempted rolling robberies the last three years, the crooks punch a hole in one of your rear tires then follow you until you stop then they gotcha! I drove one rent a car on the bare rim after the tire literally burned off the rim they kept on me for about 15 miles, Even though extremely shaken Bonnie was proud of me not letting the bastards run me of the road. Follow the news for a week or so I know you will get the message: http://www.amcostarica.com/index.htm take the time to check recent back issues, it is no longer the safe place it use to be!

Hey, as long as we're talking about the caribean...anybody know anything about Puerto Rico? Apparently we're going to be there for a few days in January.

For those of you who need Relaxing ...LOW Key: I recommend North Korea. The Air Fare need only be ONE WAY.....So it's not too expensive...........and maybe you get to meet someone famous...like Bill Clinton....or maybe even Jimmy Carter...when you want to come home. :nilly: :nilly:

Hey, as long as we're talking about the caribean...anybody know anything about Puerto Rico? Apparently we're going to be there for a few days in January.10 yrs ago, rented car with the wife and drove around the whole island, off the beaten path deal. Compared to the other caribean islands (10-12) Ive been to, being my wifes in the travel biz. It was my least fav of all. I dont like putting anything down so pm for details.

PM sent.

In this case, it's not my choice. I'd rather charter a boat and cruise the PNW :boat:

But her new company is hosting their annual sales conference there, and we'll have 3 or 4 days after to ourselves. Just thought I'd ask if anybody had been.
