Hey everybody. While I anticipate that I will order a new Classic 18 or possibly 22, I came across an interesting deal. Leftover 02 22 ZX, loaded, with a Mag 350 powerplant. My question is what kind of top end can I anticipate with that engine. What kind of top end can I anticipate with the 6.2 MX MPI powerplant. What is the best setup in everybody's opinion, the Mag 350 or the 6.2 MX MPI, for the 22 ZX?
Thanks, Ken

6.2 Horizon is closed loop cooling, a definate plus. + + + (Donzi charges about $2000 for the closed loop for the Horizon......)
The 6.2 and 350 Mag will be the same in preformance, I think. 63ish an ocassional great day 65 GPS.
Great Boat, fun, fast and looks awesome...
And i will say a 22 Classic would be a great boat to own too. Ask anyone here?
Best of luck to ya and keep us posted.
Bryan

PS, a left over 22ZX should be about 39K maybe 40/41ish $$... smoke'm out.

Price I got before any negotiation for a leftover 22 ZX, loaded, with 350 Mag, was $40,595.
Pretty good I thought.
Thanks, Ken

I have heard that the 22 ZX is somewhat slow to plane with the SB engines, the 350 Mag and the 6.2MX MPI. Is this true? Why can the 22 Classic be ordered with the 496 Mag from the factory and the 22ZX cannot, the largest engine avilable for that boat the 377 Scorpion? What is the best setup for the 22 ZX? I am looking for a really crisp, well handling, fast boat that is also good for the family in Long Island sound chop. I have been reading a lot of posts going way back about the somewhat squirrely handling of the Classics, even though I like the looks of the Classics better. Ideally, if the boat was right for my needs, I would order a new Classic 18 with the 6.2 MX MPI.
Thanks, Ken

OK, I may cross the line here...
I owned a 1999 22ZX, they are not slow to plane at all, no big blocks since 1998 or '99, they are good in 1 to 2's, if the water you normally boat in is bigger then you a 26 or bigger.
There are plenty of left over 26's for low 50's $.

Don't get me wrong, the 22ZX is a great boat and we had two great seasons in one, but your desires do not describe a 22 Classic or a 22ZX.

NYStock, all I am saying is if you consistantly run in rougher water there is no substituation for hull length and freeboard.
If it is just chop, like you mentioned I (if in your shoes), I would probably pursue a 22 classic, and a powerful one, the most CuIn's you could buy stock.

What are you running around in now?

Good luck with your search, and keep us posted.

NYStock, The 22ZX is a great running boat I had the 22 with a 454/510hp before the supercharge she was a little hard to come out of the water, The 350 are not they are a lighter set up and 310hp the top end on a 454 was at 63mph and the 350 is the same speed, Motor weight the Scorpion will move that boat to 68 mph Thats One Awesome motor! I love the classics depending on what part of Long Island I would go with a Higher hulled boat, The sound can get nasty, I ran several poker Runs in my 22ZX 1 in Long Island by Patti Mcgees and several in The Hudson, The 22ZX is a good boat for that water If you ever want to talk about the boat or if you are interested in a 22 Classic or 22ZX call me at Typhoon Performance Marine after 5:00pm 732-477-6157 I am not just a boat salesman, I am a Donzi owner and I have a Love for the best boats ever made.
