Has anyone bought a boat and changed the color? I fond a 22c but its Turqoise and Im not crazy about that color. Is it a good idea to change the color of a boat? If so what would be a good choice paint or gel?

Depends on your budget. You can change the color, if you want. Paint would be much cheaper than gel. Usually, the piping on the upholstery is the same as the gel. You going to change that too?

Yep I would have to $1300 for new skins

Is it factory teal? If so I'd leave it alone.

why?

I like the teal boats. Dr. Dan's hp500 22 was teal and there is a teal 22 on "my" lake that runs 85 mph. I think it's an attractive color.......if it is the factory shade.

I can't stand teal just don't like that color unless it's on a 55 Chevy lol

It will not be easy or cheap to change it. What color would you change it to?

Paint is the best option. My boat came with yellow paint on white gel from the factory. I think Mr. Fixxall knows of a way to paint the seat piping. Pretty sure I saw it here not long ago.

Here it is: http://www.donzi.net/forums/showpost.php?p=577563&postcount=3

you can have the boat wrapped with vinyl too. that is the cheap alternative and it allows you to go back to factory if you want to.

I like white and red I guess I'll just keep looking for one that I like. The boat has paint over the gel I wonder if I could get the pain off without messing up the gel?

it depends also if they messed up the gel putting the paint on or... whty they painted the boat in the first place.

I have changed the boat colors on probably at least 25 boats over the years. Some were ones that I bought and restored to sell and some were customer's boats. If you can do the paint or gelcoat work yourself - go for it. If you are going to have to pay for the work, you would probably be better off to find the color you want in the first place to save the money. Just my two cents. Bill

What Bill said.
Unless they're giving you the boat, don't bother, it won't be cheap.

The stripes and oversized FAKE Donzi logo are not good
if you get rid of those, the teal might look better?
Just my taste . . .

The cut metal Donzi lettering looks great on the newer boats!

I saw a teal one, changed to black. Looked fine, not fantastic. Like a 6 foot paint job... but maintenance/upkeep is basically nothing and you can replace it in a few years for something new.

As far as that green one, I guess they liked the blackhawk look. I wonder who painted it.

It really looks like the paint was done very well. I wonder if they ordered it from the factory that way.?.

I likey! If those seats and paint are original that is a special boat IMO. I'd be all over that but if you really hate the teal.............

Didn't they have the 502 in 2002 though?

If it isn't factory they did a darn good job. I'd be all over that boat if I were in the 22 market. It looks great based on pics.

Sleep on the color, maybe it will grow on you. I like teal on boats though, so it works for me well:)

I don't think it's factory because of the "DONZI" logo... looks like those old iron-on letters I had when I was a kid! I sure hope Donzi would never choose that font for their badge...

Otherwise it is a sharp boat!

IMHO, unless you're planning on keeping it for the rest of your life and willing it to your kids, leave it alone!
Buy it, use it, don't mention to anyone else that you don't like the color and no one will care......except you, of course.
When it time to sell or trade, all the folks that adore teal Donzis will come out of the woodwork and buy it.

In the mean time, remove the graphics!

I coming around on the color but would like a red and white are all white. The motor is not the one that came with the boat I guess the guy that had it 1st had a big motor in it that scarred him so he had the dealer swap it with this one. At least thats the story I got LOL who knows

WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! Where did you buy this boat??

Jraysray
10-01-2010, 08:06 PM
All, this boat belongs to a current board member.

The boat is in great shape and unique. The boat was purchased from victory marine via Hubbamaster. Scot Van A knows it inside and out.

There was a MONSTER engine in the beast. Yes it was true the new (not current) owner took one test ride and it scared him so bad that they worked a deal on a trade and installed the curent set up.

The owner might just keep it so take it easy when calling it Fugly. You might meet him at an event some day. Hell i got a friggin' hawk on the side of mine. I didn't put it there but it's not comming off.:wink:

I will try to find the link to the original set up.

Carl,
It was a post on "show me you're favorite 22" or something like that. Search Jackl1969 and look through his posts. I know there was another posting from Scot VanA but I am not sure where that was. I would just PM Chad. He can lead you to the thread or posts. Prob answer your questions. Chad is Jackl
