I saw those on another board last week. That's an incredible series of photos. Read somewhere that the waves pushed the boat into a shoal, and it basically grabbed and tipped. Who knows if that's true or not. Apparently the late captain had a lot of experience at the helm of that boat as well as that inlet.

Very sad.

Incredible sequence for sure. It's hard to understand exactly what happened even after reading the description of "broaching". What the hell happened and what can we learn from this? Ok, just reread McGary's post. He may have hit a shoal? Wow. That could explain it. I don't see any other reason for a vessel of this size to turn completely onto it's side. Post #25 put it to video. I don't get it. WTF happened???

I've been told Jupiter Inlet is absolutely treacherous and "can" change daily.
If you look at it on Google Earth, you can see a number of sand bars w/waves breaking in numerous places.

I understand that boat was out of Ocean City , Maryland, registered in St. Micheals, Md.
Apparantly it broke high off a wave and tossed the captain,

Its hard to tell from the still picturs series But it Actually looks more like the type of Danger you get from a following sea, where the pushing wave rams the bow into the next wave which causes a stall and the pushing energy forces the stern around with center of the hull acting as a flocrum.
This Can happen to Even the most experienced captains In the right set of wrong conditions.
VERY SCARY INDEED !!!!
