I read on Donzi retail list that my 26 ZX should arrive with standard GPS speedometer...
Which are advantages about it rather than a standard one?? :)

Do you use it or classic one??

A GPS speedometer is way more accurate than the "standard" ones. Your typical boat speedometer uses water pressure (obtained from a pitot and tube running to the unit) to measure speed. A GPS unit uses satellite technology (obviously). Standard speedo's typically read very optimistic. GPS units are dead on.

the gps receiver is built into the speedo so no you do not need a seperate unit.

All the stepped hull boats now come standard with GPS speedo's. I was told this is because the pitot tube speedo's never really worked correctly with the stepped hulls, too much air under the hulls.

Easy, when my Classic had the 502 in it and the air fed speedo said 75, it felt good, but I knew it was only a dream. Now with the 500 and the GPS speedo, when it says 75, I'm going 75. I've checked it several times against a hand held and its dead on.

By the way, there is an antenna for the unit, that Livorsi states needs a clear sky view, but mine works just fine mounted level in the ski stow area. No messing up the deck stripe or dash on my Classic!

OH yeah 75 is VERY invigorating... wink eek! :D

i think i just might add the GPS speedo to my TO-DO list... the garmin on the OH-CRAP rail rocks.. but... it just isn't the same as teh big dial wink
