im sorry also im a gm fan but a cummins will hand the chevy its a$$..

Dmax 05 and up,the earlier ones had injector problems,if your considering 4x4 the older ones had problems with the service fwd light coming on,it can be fixxed by replacing the encoder motor on the side of the transfer case..try to stick with the newer ones..

Drive a 8.1 liter also they are fast! :)

My 03 dura/alli had about 200k when I traded it in. Four sets of tires and no brake job. My 07 is at about 140k, third set of tires still good and no brake job yet. Mine are 4x4 crew cab 3500's with single back tires. I've been looking at new ones. They seem to eat U-joints and carriers every 70k, but they fix them at no charge, even after 100k.

I've only heard good things about the transmission. The last chebby diesel I bought I lemon lawed it. I bought six new Fords since then without a problem.

I think i would buy anything pre 09 or pre when they added all that dpf stuff on the diesels.. my 09 f250 has had 2 DPF's with only 20k miles... and burns more fuel too vs alittle soot

The injector issue was recalled. They fixed my brothers '01 for free. That thing went through wheel bearings like crazy though. Said his buddy's '03 did too. Other than that it was a great truck until until a lowboy sideswiped it.

I was only stating major issues but now that we are on a roll! :)

1 yes problem with wheel bearings my expierance every 70 k

2 problems with window regulators

3 transfer case leaks (4x4 only)

4 if you drive in the salty states your going to be replacing rear backing plates that house the emergengy brakes

5 yes injectors but gm put a 200 k warrenty on them.

6 dash/cluster goes out..

7 again the salty states and if you plow you will be replacing the dr side window switch

8 with the allison trans, its a good trans but the d-max /gm version has a gm valve body,,they have various issues..

8 expect to be replacing inner tierods around 68k

9 other then what stated keep it under 70 mph and you will get 22 mpg :)

My '03 is actually a 6 speed manual cause when I bought mine in '02 the jury was still out on the allison and ford and dodge were eating automatics. I regularly pull a gooseneck and backhoe that weighs 19600 lbs.

Empty, it always gets 20-22 mpg. On highway, it drops to about 18-20 if you cruise at 74 and above. Pulling backhoe, it still gets 10-12 mpg

tires last about 60k
never touched brakes, but they are due. (210,000)
Replace clutch and assembly at 118,000
The computer locked up twice between 122,000 and 130,000. The thing thought it was being stolen
Injectors at 168,000
Instrument cluster at 170,000
Starts easily down to 5 deg, Never pugged it in

Overall, very satisfied. Will prob buy another in a year or so.

With a manual trans, the cummins has more off idle torque. With the allison, it is hard to beat. Will pull anything, drives like a gas empty, quiet, dependable, best fuel mileage.............
