The Arrow 830 just took part in 2010 Stockholm Shootout and with a 600 hp

Merlin 509 did 78.5 mph. A Donzi 22 Classic with ~600 hp 540 motor did a

very impressive speed of 86 mph, see photo.

The Arrow is an evolution of the Magnum 27 Sport and are as Jeff said among other things stepped and cut for a lower profile. Very nice riding boats with a big following among the Swedes. The orange boat is owned by a nice fellow Mange who also has run his boat with Gulf graphics. Mange has for several years run his boat with a 572 with 900 hp plus. A good thread on the boats on OSO and a few videos. The 6 minute video is showing fotage from a yearly friendly race to determin the Archipelago of Stockholm's fastest boat. These modern vikings are getting a little too pretentious for my taste, but that's just my take on it  The ladies are cute though :pimp:

I'm not up to date with the latest slang expressions in Swedish these days

Ed, but there's a Swedish version of 'American Idol' in Gothenburg that's

called ' Rocka Fett' and I guess the Donzi owner rightly believes to have

some talent of his own and that the sound from his boat is kind of 'fat'

thanks Lars and yep, it's an A110 1600 racing body with which some frenchmen were racing in south france , not really street legal but I drive it with dealer plates very often. It really looks nice but you can't see how small it is- when I sit in there I almost have my head and shoulders between my knees :hyper:

Dealer plates are something special here in germany, not easy to get. You can almost drive everything with them without registering it and without getting trouble with the officials...
This is me in my other car with the "dealer plates", also interested?? :hyper:

I know my taste of cars is expansive but I got both cars quiet cheap in horrible condition and I restored both cars myself- and both actually were ebay-deals some time ago. Today you will never find these cars at ebay anymore.

George, that car is cool but I can't figure out what it is? Is it a Jag?

Bill, your Cobra is also stunning, love that yellow!

It is a 1954 Talbot Lago T26 Grand Sport.
Only 26 (I think) were built in a 3 or 4 year period.
At the time, it was the most powerful production car in the world,
developing about 190 HP from a 4.4 L hemi head 6.
It also used a 4 speed Wilson preselector transmission.
Talbot Lago either won, or came in second at Le Mans
for several years in the early 50's.
Talbot Lago was just one of the French luxury car mfgr's
forced out of business in the post war years, like Bugatti,
Delage, Delahaye, and Hotchkiss, due to high taxation created
by the pro-comunist French government of the time.
I think this is one of the most beautiful cars ever built.

Yes, you're thinking of the "Teardrop" cars built in the '30's.
I think only 6 were built. What are left are valued @ $millions!!!!!
The T26's are cheaper, maybe $200K.

BIG fan of Bizzarrini's creations and the yellow one looks as fantastic as Bill's Texas brute. That You George like Talbot Lago is of no surprise to me since You always showed refined taste when it came to boats discussed.

Another boating fellow, Ron Spindler, owner of Schiada Custom Boats with his son Lee since the late 70's is a lover of cars and he has a soft spot for Bizzarrini automobiles. He has two Bizzarrini 5300GT Strada that he has restored. One functions as a driver and the second is a show queen. On top of that he purchased the famous Bizzarrini Manta ItalDesign in 2005. He re-restored that, since I know the car was restored in Sweden in the 1980's and before the car was appearing in magazines, nobody had seen 'the lost exotic' for more than a decade!

Hello Lars,

Good Day
Back in 1983, I had a 1967 Iso Grifo with a 327 Corvette engine. it was a really insteresting car. I found it by accident as I was looking to purchase another Detomaso Pantera or Mangusta. The guy that had the Iso rebuilt Panteras and Mangustas for a living. He had just finished the Iso. The only Mangusta he had was basket case and the Panteras all need major work. So I got a deal on the Iso.
Was a Interesting car to have for while

Thank you
jim

Good to hear that You enjoyed Your Grifo Jim. 1967 was an early one and with the 327 it's still fast enough. The Grifo is supposed to have an almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution and even though the 427 and 454 in later cars are a lot heavier, they were also positioned close to the fire wall for a pretty good set up. The chassie is very responsive and even provides well damped suspension that gives a comfortable ride.

George, I don't know how come You didn't like the BBC cars You saw, but keep in mind that the 327 SBC and the 427 & 454 BBC engines all got dis-assembled after arriving to Italy. Engines were blueprinted and my favorite is the L71 engine which after assembly cranked out well in excess of the original 435hp.

By coincidence George, I did spot a Talbot for You when I was driving down a boulevard in Santa Monica yesterday. It's a 1956?(probably1957) Talbot-Lago with a V8 in it. However it's a BMW V8, so the price will be much more interesting than the close to $500,000 that has been paid for perfect T26 special coupes from around 1950. Maybe $50,000 will buy this one?

Lars, when I was in high school, I was a typical hotrodder and there was no answer like a few hundred more cubic inches. Here we are, nearly 50 years later, my tastes have changed.
In the case of the Grifo, I never understood, in the day, why add 150 extra lbs or so for a power increase of 50-75 HP. If it had been an all aluminum fire breather, maybe, but it wasn't. It was just a torque monster.
It's just an opinion and worth just what it is.
The Talbot T26 moniker had to do w/the taxable HP which is what killed the French auto industry.....too much taxable HP = 100% tax or so. No one would buy any new French luxury car.
The company came out w/the "Baby" w/a 2.6 L 4 cylinder version of the 6 cylinder engine. It had all the bad features of any large (2+L) 4 cylinder engine and it would vibrate horribly at over 2000 RPM.
The answer was the BMW 2.5 L V-8 built for the 507 sports car, another favorite. I think they had 2 Solex downdraft carbs and produced about 150 hp. The "Baby" was a 7/8 scale (or so) T26. It was tight. Many people couldn't fit in them. Also, a lot of corners were cut. No roll up windows on some cars, and the back window was plastic. Only a very few of these were built as Talbot couldn't afford the BMW engines. In fact BMW probably never got all their money. It really was the end of the line for them.
Here's a contemporary Road & Track road test for them;

Too bad about the French car industry. This little Talbot seem delightful and if I had been contemporary I would have loved to have a Citroen Familiale wagon.
As far as the Grifo goes I agree with You in general, but since the Grifo is a very sporty GT car I think the 427 is a 'cool' contribution to the car's character. However the lines on the earlier 327 cars are lovelier and in general I tend to agree with You on the advanteges of the SBC engines. I never could understand why anybody would prefer a BBC in a Stingray Vette, so I guess the same goes for here, well G.T. car? I think I'm still ambivalent unfortunately.
This Winchester blue favorite of mine has also over 400 hp, but from a 5.3 liter engine and I hope to catch one before they're out of my price range
'My name is Lars, Lars The Swede', I think I could get used to introduce myself with those words stepping out of an Aston Vantage like this one!

gcarter
08-24-2010, 09:52 AM
It's funny you mentioned the Aston, as there seems to be a lot of "less than perfect" Astons on the market for $35-$50K. Maybe even less for the sellor that needs the money.

The Aston V8 around 1976-1979 is a car I look at all the time. They never shot up in price a few years back and they are now $30k-45k for a pretty nice condition car. They have a very muscular look to me. I watched the restoration of a 1978 Vantage 5 speed car about 15 years ago and the car was restored to an immaculate standard. It was a beautiful car. They had to re wrap all the aluminum panels where it met up with steel with a linen like material to minimize corrosion. The car was reasonably fast, heavy, and consumed mass quantities of fuel. I'd love to have one in the garage.

Thank You George for pointing out what many Swedes have voiced in the past with regards to Ocke Mannerfelt's designs.
