For sale is a very nice 17’ Whaler. This is a turn-key, fully detailed, Four-Stroke Honda equipped Montauk with a trailer that will hold it’s value for years to come! Clear Florida title is in my name.
Boat is located in Sarasota, FL

Hull:
Kept on davits last few years, currently rack stored. Nice gelcoat still has decent shine. Very very few stress cracks, really a nice example of a Montauk hull inside & out. Hullstides nice & straight, interior nonskid & gelcoat in very good shape. Bowrail was removed years ago, other rails & stainless present & in very nice condition. Boat is completely detailed & freshly waxed. New bottom paint over several layers of older paint that was sanded prior to new paint application.
Console:
Newer compass, new starboard panels, old defunct Lawrance depthfinder. Working Honda tach and original hour meter, shows 1400+- total hours on the boat from new. Original teak doors replaced with low maintenance alternatives. Original doors in good shape included upon request.
Engine:
Motor is exceptionally clean under the cowling. Runs really strong & smooth, though cold start is a just bit tricky. Fires up immediately when warm. New gear oil in lower unit, fresh fuel filter, oil just changed. Factory hydraulic steering works nicely. Has good compression but I don’t know the actual hours. My wife & I just returned from a 50 mile round trip with no issues (August 7-8, 2010).
Trailer:
Single axle with no brakes. Average condition with very little use, perfect for around town. New carpet on bunk boards, new bow V-block, lights work. Older tires hold air. For long trip would I would suggest a full service of bearings etc...
Electrical:
TWIN OPTIMA BLUE TOP BATTERIES with battery switch, all mounted in console!! Working bowlight, I have the original stern light but it needs repaired & has no lens. Working 500GPH bilge pump.
Canvas:
Older (original Mills?) bimini top, works fine but needs new straps and a little TLC.
Other:
Igloo cooler with new white cushion, new hardware, and nice hold-down brackets. Teak on the Reversable Pilot Seat (RPS) redone with Cetol, looks nice. The white RPS seat cushion is in excellent condition. The forward anchor locker hatch has been replaced with a carefully made starboard non-skid piece. The original hatch needs repair and is included in the sale of the boat.
Summary & Contact info:
I don’t want to oversell the condition of the boat; it is not perfect but it is definitely better than average, clean, reliable, and ready to use and enjoy RIGHT NOW!

What kind of performance do you get?
Speed
Range
Cruise

Speed with the ugly alum prop & bottom paint is low 40's
the fuel economy is almost miraculous, like 7mpg at 25mph. To give you an idea, I just went on a trip last weekend: left Boca Grande, south to Captiva, down around Pine Island and hauled it back across Charlotte Harbor (outrunning a storm) to Boca Grande- all on about 10 gallons!
