I think this Velocity is a great deal for someone looking on the East Coast.
If it were closer to me I would buy it just to tool around in.

Use it until you grenade it and then replace with Bravo.

The way I drive and get non-use out of my boats the Alpha would probably last forever.

That is a point.

Treat it right and keep the 2-3 MPH you lose with a switch to a Bravo, another point Alphas can be replaced far cheaper then Bravos. I still consider that one of the biggest mistakes I made when I did my 22 over. The Alpha I removed has over 400 additional hours on it pushing my kids boat which is twice as heavy as a 22, put a shower on it and enjoy.

My old Chapparal 2350SX had an Alpha drive, Years ago I switched it over to Redline Lightweight Shockproof gear oil, the new owner continues to run it with the same, not a leak, not a mechanical issue in over 600 hours of ocean and hard lake use. I ran that boat at WOT and in some nasty big stuff for years, it's now in Newport, RI and seeing hard ocean use.

It's not all about temp, it's the quality of the lube.

I totally agree - lubrication can make or break a drive. Use the best you can find through some research. Bill
