Need a measurement please...

Looking for the ram length (eye to eye) of the trim ram when it is in the "up" position. NOT TRAILER UP.

I am sure Mercury must have a max length as not to over trim while running.

My rams are at 21 and 3/16 inches when fully extended by the trim button. I would like to know if this is the max or not.

If set correctly, that dimension is in your manual. :wink:

Actually it's not in the manual i have, but since I just changed the switches, I still have the instructions that came w/them......
And the answer is....(drum roll).......
21 3/4"!

Usually the Trim Sender Kits include some basic instructions.
Before fitting the switches into position on the hinge pins, take a look at the them.
The center piece rotates. You will see a notch on both the center piece and the housing.
These notches are alignment marks.
Turn the center piece as so the alignment marks are lined up.
With the drive in the FULL DOWN position you will install the switches being careful not to
misalign the marks.
Most of the time this will be the perfect position and the Trim Limit and the Trim Gauge will be right on.
Some minute adjustments may be required to "tweak" the gauge reading and trim limit setting.
Your Shop Manual will describe the exact height for the Trim Limit.
Loosening the retainer screws and rotating the switch housing just a little bit in one direction
or the other will change the settings. Snug up the screws and cycle the drive up and down to confirm your setting.

That is the basic setting but it will vary a bit with different transom angles.

Ken if you are going past the recommended length don't exceed 1,200 RPM too much load on the cocked Ujoints!

Howard, I don't know if there is too much bow in the water, but I am willing to find out. :)

Phil, I won't go past the factory spec. As a matter of fact, I just may adjust the ram a hair short. It is just that whan I was looking at the outdrived trimed up on the lift this past wekend, it just didn't look that
high.
